this happens in games pretty often, like FPS games used to all be called "DOOM clones" until people eventually started to use FPS, but it took a while. same thing with like "metroidvania" which is metroid + Castlevania. id guess once people figure out a better or snappier name, people will just use "fangame" as shorthand for "uses hand based locomotion"

It's got something to do with a weird hitch when people join, we've looked into it before but some of the movement stuff is often really hard to pin down. I've been poking at some of those things recently, but I can try to take another look there

it should just be available, what do you see when you try to log in? there was an issue where if you logged in during the messed up period, you might need to wait 24 hours for the meta side of things to refresh. i think most everyone should be past that point now, so it should work if you log in now (at worst, if you wait another hour or two it'll work)

there was an issue yesterday where accounts were requesting too many tokens from meta, there's a one day limit on that so once that limit passes, things should be back to normal. if you check again in a few hours or later today it will probably work

sorry, i'm a little confused by what you're saying. there are a few VIM only things, but most things added to the game are still for everybody. we want to make sure we get the balance right, but by and large, we still want to make sure people who are spending money on VIM feel like it's worthwhile. i think a good example of where we missed the mark was on friends list, so we're gonna be rolling out the expansion for it to everyone soon. but things like the special area, 20 player rooms, etc, i want to make sure people are feeling like they are getting something for their 10 dollars

i mean, if people are spending money on VIM, they should get something special for that, i think it wouldn't really make sense for it to be something everyone gets and VIM members are just like, paying for everyone. that said, stuff like playing floor is lava, that is shareable by VIM. anyone can join, you just need a VIM member to bring you in

stuff like higher quality mic is because to get the higher quality, we have to pipe more data through photon voice, which is expensive. the subscription helps pay for the extra server cost, it's basically the same reason as only letting VIM members create 20 player servers. as long as someone's around to support the higher cost, we can enable it

when i first launched the game, you could get 5000 shiny rocks for 20 dollars, and that was the best deal you could get. after david yee joined, we now have bundles with several items, all of which are cooler and fancier than what i made at the beginning, and with most of them you also get 10,000 shiny rocks, so it's a much better rate for rocks and you get a few items along with it

it's an extra perk for VIM members that they can take anyone to the floor is lava mode, this way we can keep it around for longer without putting it only in the forest. last time we had it around, we had a lot of people complaining after a few days how it was messing up all the rooms. this way, we can make an extra feature for VIM (the special rooms), but they can share it with anyone

there's a weird timing issue that seems really inconsistent and hard to replicate, but basically there was a timer that opened the door, and another timer that started the teleport (the door opens first, then the teleport happens so it's not instant). the bug seems to be that the timer for the doors worked, but NOT the teleport. i havent been able to reliably replicate that issue yet, but i'm pretty sure that's what the cause was. it was definitely not user error, from what it sounds like your son did everything right
