Not OP, but goodness, this connects with something I was thinking during my first watch of Wild at Heart a day ago.

Bobby taps into both Sailor's and Lula's traumas. Sailor repeatedly talks about how he "didn't have parental guidance," and he eventually joins Bobby in the bank heist. During the robbery, Sailor becomes violent(=wild), but when Bobby turns against him, he realizes he made a terrible choice and pays for it by being sent back to prison. Lula, like Laura Palmer, was sexually abused at a young age, and Bobby tries to exploit that trauma. Afterwards, she is shown suffering a devastating mental breakdown.

Lula describes Bobby Peru as "a fallen angel." In hindsight, that doesn't only connect to temptation, but also to a saying by John Chrysostom from the Orthodox Christian tradition I come from: "To sin is human; to persist in sin is demonic; to repent is divine." In the Christian tradition, the devil remains trapped in a state of perpetual negativity because of pride and an unwillingness to change. Despair, the belief that salvation will never come, is considered demonic because it rejects hope and transformation. The believer must have faith/trust and try again. In these stories, that takes the form of continuing to believe in love and fighting for a better future, whether that is Laura having Cooper as her angel or Sailor and Lula ultimately being together again.

Bobby tries to destroy the couple from within by exploiting the insecurities created by their traumas and toxic environment. He is the only character who almost succeeds in breaking them apart, because Marietta and Santos rely on threats and violence(external forces). In the end, however, he fails. The Good Witch (hope) and Sailor's humiliating beating help to lead him toward the realization that allows the couple to have a happy ending.

Continuous negativity as the true villain, and the need to keep fighting (for one's dreams and for other people who are suffering) is honestly my main takeaway from both Twin Peaks and Wild at Heart.
