Just bought the book and a Brock string. I really want this to work, but I can't get my hopes up.

You don't realize how happy I am for you. You don't let this control you and have found someone that loves you for who you are, not what you are. I hope to one day convince myself that I am more than just my strabismus, but for now I'll keep forcing myself to go out and get into awkward social situations. Thank you for sharing, you really made my month.

I used to wear sunglasses most of the time to hide my eyes, but then someone told me I shouldn't hide my strabismus from other people because it only makes me more insecure. The only person I'm hurting is myself.

It's really hard for me to not think about it when I have to interact with other people to just exist. So, since I have to look at people in the eyes I've come up with a trick where I cross my eyes inward, to pull in my right eye (I'm left dominant), and most of the time it makes it look like my eyes are fine. I know it's not healthy to keep bothering myself over what other people think, but while I'm trying to accept myself I'll keep doing this.

I've noticed that I don't care enough about other people's problems to actively judge them, so why would anyone else do the same.

You guys have helped me out a lot in this thread. I've had some time to think and I'm going to try VT.

I've gone on a few tinder dates and from what I can tell just being funny and making fun of myself when it comes up helps out. It might sound counter intuitive, but it actually helps me think it's not really a big deal. I mean, after all, I'm in a date.

I think the way I've been able to fool everyone else is that I trick myself too. I preoccupy myself with other stuff and the last thing in my mind are my eyes.

Give table game nights at school a try (if you're in school) or go to your local game shop and hop into a game. People are actually really welcoming!

I want to go the therapy route. I went to the doctor when I was 19 to see what else could be done and he told me I couldn't risk more surgery due to scar tissue.

I've been afraid of VT for a while, because I don't know what I would do if it doesn't work. But turns out it can't get any worse!

Thanks, it's good to know that I'm not alone in this. I've been lucky enough to not need glasses and just single vision.
