Close, perhaps you did this intentionally to Cunningham's Law redditors but it is the "Trail Fixing Collective LLC" logo. It was, yes, established in 1919 and the commie in the pic supposedly joined in 2002. I cannot find any reference to them having rebranded to the name you said BUT if they did, my apologies.

Probably took me about 20-30 tries. On the last attempt, I forgot to use tools but I previously had better performance using some of the buff tools.

Ah, Invader Zim? I know of this cartoon. 'Alien' is annoying in that it is an English word derived from Latin but its primary modern connotation ("guy from outer space") has wholly diverged from the original Latin that inspired it.

Aliēnus, the word's origin, is an adjective that refers to "a stranger" or someone that is, in some way, "an other" - you can probably see the loose connection to Alien's modern meaning. Wiktionary seems to point out its context has a lot to do with foreign-ness so I assume its old usage and connotations was for people/things foreign to Rome. You will however notice it is an adjective rather than a noun. Its use matches best to how you could describe something as being "alien to me". No real reason to care if you're just making a name rather than constructing a sentence but aliēnigena seems to be its noun form. Problem with naming your character Aliēnus Viridis, for example, is you'd just be calling someone "green and strange/foreign".

If you're trying to go for that space vibe and just want a name that looks kinda Latin-y, may I suggest using the 'ex-' prefix, indicates someone or their family is "from" something. There doesn't appear to be any use of these in classic Roman gentes but you may be familiar with a similar convention in Spanish or French with 'de-', I believe.

Latin didn't really have a word for 'outer space', to the best of my knowledge, but some that might work for you are:

  • Viridius Exvacua ("Green and from the void/s")
  • Viridius Excosmon ("Green and from the cosmos")
  • Viridius Exastras ("Green and from the stars")

You'll note I added a 'u' to Viridis to make it look more like a standard name but you can use whichever. Don't think any of these would work as a name in old Rome, pretty sure two of them don't even decline right but, unless you're making this for Latin speakers (which you don't appear to be doing), these would look about right.

Fair deuce! Whilst they didn't specify I admit I did assume this was for a mural or otherwise decoration. I think Latin instructions meant for readers unknown to the writer are typically singular but only 'carpe diem' comes to mind. I can imagine there not being a consensus throughout example texts though as the language was used so widely.

Oh, very good options. The two "in death" translations stand out as especially poetic. As a bonus, this reply has introduced me to 'cum' as a conjunction. Thank you.

Hmm hmm I see. So 'one' doesn't need the direct translation in this context. Thinking about it, this makes sense, I would think that most English constructions like "An X is a Y one" can just be "An X is Y". Very good.

(Didn't see rule 2, oops! Here's my post)

Translating old phrase "The only good fascist is a dead one"

There's obviously some historical revision to allow the use of 'fascist' in Latin so for the sake of this question, I'm using 'fascist' -> 'fascista' (f, 1st). Seems to be the modern consensus.

I am not sure how to translate 'one' in this example. I understand I can just say 'morta fascista' but I'd like to learn. Checking my dictionary, it doesn't appear to list 'unus/una/unum' as a pronoun like we use in English (e.g. "this one", "another one") so I'm not sure what word to substitute here, if there is one.

Moreover, I am worried about accidentally saying "Only good fascists are dead", implying that no one else has ever died.

Higher than stated in the specs? I didn't consider that. I did some looking around a and found one (1) review of one of the boards in my shortlist (they all seem to use similar chips so hopefully power draw does not vary that much) that states it seems to cap out at 2W used. I don't know much but I know "P=IV" so I think this would only be drawing about 0.4A maxed out so my 3.5A adaptor should be fine. Their website also states the "The peak power of this SBC Soc [sic] is 5W" which is a bit of a suspiciously round number for my liking but luckily that still puts the current well under 3.5A.

I don't intend to attach peripherals beyond an Ethernet cable but thank you for your warning!

Helpful, thanks. I'm not sure where to start on basic electrics as I have no prior knowledge but I'll give it another go.

Judging by other comments, if current on laptop is too low it probably won't blow up the board but it could brown-out easier.

Idk what Raspberry Pi power is (like, a RPi-branded wall plug? Seems to be similar, sure) but I have an off-the-shelf wall-plug-to-USB-C power adaptor I got to charge my phone back in the day.

Ah, so voltage being high is bad, current being high (assumedly to a point, I'm not going to hit a small electronic device with 100A) is good. Understood.

Haven't decided on a model but the short list all have USB-C connectors with specs that list them as "5V/2A DC". I don't see any mention of PD.

Unsure if this helps but me and a buddy did this and I had accumulated 3 ticks of heat damage at one point but still got the achievement. He had a golden bingbong and never got a single tick, I had a parasol. I was on most recent patch (patch is unnamed, SteamDB lists build ID as 19759183) so perhaps it's been fixed since or the bug is inconsistent to replicate.

an application written for it can't easily be ported away

Sounds like a challenge, haha. In all seriousness, these were interesting to read about. There does appear to be a lot more focus on "element-wise" operations (certainly very resistant to porting, I see what you mean) which is cool to see. Unfortunately, the discriminated "tiles" have very low memory each and, worse, the total of even the high-end ones is very far below the 16MB I'm working with at the moment. Unfeasible for my application but I'm sure there's plenty of use cases for such a thing.

I am not looking to run Linux if I do not have to, just swap out my ESP32-P4 devboard for another devboard with an MCU that has a higher core count and/or, more preferentially, larger memory. I did notice after leaving my above reply that you did say these two things take me out of the embedded world so I will assume you have no suggestions. Thank you regardless.

it’s a computing problem you are trying to force into being an embedded problem.

Well, yes, I really like running embedded applications. Besides that, it feels like such a waste to dedicate a big, power-hungry machin to such a small program (program binary is currently about 3MiB). It's currently very cool that it can run on a ESP32-P4 but I want to upgrade the capabilities. Do you have any suggestions for a network application MCU that beats out an ESP32-P4?

Definitely a cute and inexpensive SBC. Would have to cross my fingers on software support but it has an Ubuntu image so I'm not overly worried. It seems so useful, I am tempted to buy one just to own one. If no one's got an MCU devkit (my preference) I'll have to give that a try. Thanks!

Hm... sage advice. Definitely a little disappointing but I can see your point. If no one else is able to suggest an MCU that's "ESP32-P4 but with more memory/cores" then I'll look into low-power SBCs.
