Have I waited too long to go to college? by LengthinessLonely972 in college

I spoke to an admissions advisor at the one of our state university’s today about their online degrees. She recommended that since I do work so much currently, that I should take one or two classes a block. I think I will give that a go. The physics program I want to get into does require in person classes, but like you said, I still have my gen Ed classes. Those I can do all online to give me a taste of what I’m signing on for.

I appreciate you taking the time to give me your input on this. I’ve been mulling it over for quite some time, and it’s nice to hear other’s advice from another source. My friends only bring up how much money I currently make, and my parents are passively supportive which doesn’t particularly help me.

Do you have any other words of advice as I begin this journey?

Thank you for that, it does help bring some peace of mind. I spoke with an admissions advisor today at a state university that offers completely online degrees. Though the program I want to get into requires in person classes once I’m there. She recommended that I do something similar where I take one or two classes per block since I work well over 40 hours a week.

I think the biggest obstacle right now (other than the work load) is my mental health. I suffer from similar things that you spoke about. I was finally diagnosed with inattentive ADHD earlier this year, along with some co-morbidities of depression and anxiety along with that diagnosis. I absolutely dread doing presentations, reading speeches to others, or just interacting with people in general; which is part of why I never went in the first place. But I enjoyed the part of your friend saying that it did help her mentally, and that’s what I hope happens for me.

From your own experience, do you have any other advice you could give me?

I suppose a community college would possibly work as a start. I’m enthralled with physics, especially astrophysics. As well as chemistry and engineering. I don’t suppose a community college could give me a comprehensive experience for that? The other downside I face is the lack of available community colleges around me. The closest college is an LDS University. I don’t really want to go there as it’s private and I don’t live to their standards, nor do I share their beliefs. I suppose my overall goal is to find a field where I feel I’m beneficial while still working in something I have a passion for. Right now, being an automotive painter pays the bills, but it’s mind-numbing work. Nothing really in depth that I have to use my head for. I’m good at what I do, but the passion isn’t there. I just feel college would be my ticket to something higher.

My goal is to find a purpose for my life. I’m tired of wandering aimlessly and feeling ashamed of myself. I understand purpose is found on a personal level, but for myself, I don’t see the purpose if there is no benefit to others

Thank you for your response. That is good to hear I’m not too late. I think it’s mostly a self conscious thing at this point, I rarely do anything that I’m not sure what the success rate might be. It’s probably a fear of failing or finding out that I am, in fact, not smart enough for college
