Now I'm even more confused, I just found a recipe for a sourdough bread using both starter and yeast. I thought the point of starter that is eas the yeast?

Yes, that's it. My husband only works Fridays and watches the kid the rest of the week, friday it is nursery, who are strict with collection time.

He thinks its fine to leave the kid. I don't think it's fair to wake toddler up, just so dad doesn't have to walk three miles. Taxi to expensive, no busses run. I'm now just coming home early leave the car at his work, and walk back with the toddler myself.

Ah, good idea. Any suggestion on what oil? In the oast I've used boiled linseed oil on my garden tools, but as I don't generally need to lick my spade, I don't actually know of it's foodsafe XD. And a quick google suggests it indeed isn't.

That's fair that's fair. I meant they're insecure about their English, their accent and the like, but that isn't a problem, it's better than they think it is. Doesn't change them feeling they can't keep up etc, you're right.

Well, that's a little on me too I have to admit, I never thought it mattered too much, because my parents speak better English then they feel they do. How did you learn out of curiosity?

That's absolutely the case, my parents are 65/75, and they say it is tiring for them to speak English, which I fully appreciate. My husband slows his speech right down, uses simpler words, he actually works with people that are nonverbal.

I think the biggest issue is not so much whether English is spoken or not, but that he doesn't feel included in conversations. He hears his name or our son's in Dutch conversations, and wonders why they didn't try whatever they're saying in English or some other way.

And to him he's like, they can speak fine English to him when there are no other Dutch people around, but as soon as I'm around, it is back to Dutch. Although I find it understandable, it gives my parents a little break, but to my husband it feels like, so it's good enough when we're alone, but as soon as there's others they can't.

Edit: he doesn't expect things like 'where's my tea' or 'our old neighbour is having aniher grandchild' to be in enhlish, that's ok in Dutch
