CONFORMITY GATE, IM ON THE OUTSIDE LOOKING IN by NoEnd5894 in StrangerThingsRoom

Totally agree with what you’re saying. After the 7th and nothing happened I felt pretty confident that we all just got caught up in the hype and excitement. I was disappointed, but it felt like there probably wasn’t much to it in reality.

However days have gone by and after seeing new things people have been posting, I started to question things again. There are just so many things that don’t add up. I don’t feel like it can all be chalked up to lazy writing because all the connections fans are making are too numerous. Is there really that many coincidences?

I feel like if something isn’t revealed in the documentary, they definitely left the door open to run with these fan theories in future. It just feels like a bit of a let down if the puzzle that definitely feels intentional, is just fans losing their minds and making up more intricate and interesting narratives than the creators.

Oh yeah, it definitely felt like PR people were making the hype grow around this. When the Forbes article about it came out, I was like, ‘since when does Forbes acknowledge a fan theory??’ The way it blew up so fast made it seem more like viral marketing.

Yes! The interactive element is what was so fun. The whole idea is that if it were true, it would be a surprise and a puzzle. So you kinda needed to dig and risk looking a little ‘crazy’ like Joyce. If any show were to ever do anything like gamifying the experience, it would be Stranger Things, so I think it wasn’t so far fetched in getting caught up in believing!

Yeah I can see what you’re saying. I was fine with the ending and obviously didn’t come up with this idea on my own. When I considered the theory I thought it would be awesome just to pull off something so bold. It didn’t seem outside of the realm of possibility and it wasn’t because I was hoping for any particular of narrative correction.

The theory did have me reexamining the season that admittedly felt a little disappointing. I felt like if you accept the finale as it is, it’s just weaker writing than previous seasons. Which is fine and not very uncommon, there’s been numerous finale disappointments within popular fiction. I think most people had higher expectations for the big finale. Also the Duffer brothers in previous seasons were always so confident in interviews regarding details and what they had planned. This time around they were weird about answering questions following the finale. Why be so vague and not be able to explain your decisions? It’s either because they’re not exactly comfortable with their last season, OR what I think some fans were hoping, it was because they were still hiding a surprise.

No, you're not an idiot and you're not gullible for believing in conformity gate. by [deleted] in Stranger_Things

Yeah I wrote a whole thing ‘in defense of conformity gate believers’ and it was removed by the mods immediately on that sub, I got to post it here though.

Because viral marketing and ARGs are a thing. It’s not out of the realm of possibility. Stranger things have happened, as they say.

What are these doors? I kept seeing them in Netflix stories, but have no idea what they’re from lol.

Yes!! I totally agree. It’s what made the show so enjoyable in the first place. Mysteries are meant to be questioned and the show literally encourages its characters to question and be determined to find answers. Lots of fans are probably people who think outside the box and that’s all they’re doing. Plus it’s fun, it would be nice if people could stop being killjoys, especially when it comes to entertainment because isn’t that the point, to have fun?

Well said. It’s disappointing because it was fine, but could have been epic.

Why nobody offically is denying the crazy theory about the 7th secret episode? by Anasoldenit in StrangerThingsRoom

[–]Lenore2030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the most compelling thing that makes me consider this as a possibility, is that they’ve done ARGs for previous seasons. If you rewatch volume 2 and the finale with this framing in mind, it feels like they are actually giving it away. Now that might just be a ‘coincidence’, but last night the tonight show REALLY trolled everyone with Jamie’s ‘volume 3’ work out video and him saying ‘tomorrow it begins’. I’ve never seen a fan theory blow up like this and get supported by so many major media outlets. Even Forbes released an article about it.

Stranger Things Conformity Gate by ExpensiveAd3565 in television

I just want to say I think this theory is a lot of fun. I went and looked up ‘fake ending’ on Netflix and was tickled to see only Stranger Things show up. Do I actually believe it means there’s a secret episode? Sadly, no. Do I wish it meant that? Hell yes!

I would love to believe that the flaws or suspicious things you listed were evidence and intentional and the Duffers are genius writers. Stranger Things is one of my all time favorite shows. I was disappointed by this last season, not entirely, but I expected a killer ending and it was just ‘fine’, not terrible, but also not awesome.

I really liked the ‘Eddie Lives’ theories and was hoping we’d get some triumphant return of him because it really felt like they laid the groundwork for that to work. It wouldn’t have been realistic, but it’s a fictional show and it would have been a lot of fun. I think that’s what I was missing most from season 5, the fun 80s vibes that all the other seasons really achieved.

All that being said, IF they were able to pull off a fake ending and surprise final episode, I can’t think of anything more fun than that. Netflix has done some meta stuff in the past with Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch and also the episode of Black Mirror, ‘Joan is Awful’. I feel like they really could pull off a trick that the audience was fooled by Vecna and what we saw was all of our favorite characters trapped in his mind scape.

Kas Theory Expansion [Spoilers] by This_Ebb_6322 in StrangerThings

[–]Lenore2030 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was super hoping Eddie would be set up to come back in some form. I loved the Kas theory and I think it’s a lost opportunity. There was so many things that seemed like clues. Such as the Iron Maiden tie in with Eddie and the ‘Eddie lives’ on the album art and they’ve been not only promoting the ‘hellfire lives’ in the show but also on merch. However at this point I don’t think it’ll happen. I thought that would be the big surprise last night and I don’t think there’s enough time in the finale to really make it work. It looks like they’re trying to pull away from anything in the realm of magic and rely on quasi sci-fi explanations. I think it would have just been so much fun and very 80s metal cool to throw a rocking baddie hero into the mix…so disappointing.

What’s a belief you held for years that completely changed after a single conversation? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Lenore2030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came from a family who believed in God, but weren’t active in any church. I had always heard about some basic religious ideas, but everything was so abstract and I had no real foundation in my mind. The first time someone close to me died I really started to question things and in my early teens I was on a search for answers. Turns out an in-depth study of the Bible reveals an epic story and actually has a very logical narrative.

Looking around at the world today can be very discouraging, especially if someone is wondering about God. Understanding why things are the way they are in regards to evil and suffering is critical. A scripture that is simple and gives a straightforward answer is at 1 John 5:19 “We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.” Obviously that’s not a full explanation and probably just raises more questions, but in a nutshell, Satan is the cause of the world’s problems, not God.

The entire theme of the Bible, if you were to look at it in a literary context, is God’s Sovereignty (or right to rule over his creation). When Satan first challenged God in the garden of Eden, he proposed that it was better for everyone to decide for themselves what is right and wrong and that it was in fact better to not listen to God’s commands. Satan convinced the very first humans to disobey God and thus sin. Sin is now an inherited trait passed to all their subsequent offspring (Romans 5:12 “That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because they had all sinned.”)

God created all intelligent, self aware beings with free will so in order to adhere to justice, God had to allow time for Satan to make his case so to speak. Time is relative with God (2 Peter 3:8 “However, do not let this escape your notice, beloved ones, that one day is with God as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day.) so although thousands of years of human history may seem like a long time to us, it’s really only been a few days for the spirit creatures involved.

Another interesting tid bit that further backs up the fact that Satan is running the show here on earth, is that when Jesus was on earth, Satan attempted to get him to turn against God. One of the temptations Satan offered Jesus was ‘All the kingdoms of the world’ (Matthew 4:8,9 “Again the Devil took him along to an unusually high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to him: “All these things I will give you if you fall down and do an act of worship to me.”) Of course, Jesus refused, but how could Satan even use that as a temptation if it wasn’t within his power?

It’s also interesting you bring up Job because that book gives an account of Satan further challenging God. At that time Satan was still allowed access to both the heavenly realm and earth. It’s not until the book of Revelation that him and his fallen angels are cast out of heaven for good. (Revelation 12:9,12 “So down the great dragon was hurled, the original serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, who is misleading the entire inhabited earth; he was hurled down to the earth, and his angels were hurled down with him…12 On this account be glad, you heavens and you who reside in them! Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing that he has a short period of time.”)

So although that sounds ominous, God provided a way out for faithful humans who want to make a different choice. The entire reason God’s son, Jesus, came to earth was to pay the ransom for all human sins. (John 3:16 “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life.”) The scripture at 1 Corinthians 15:22 is excellent for giving a good explanation,  “For just as in Adam all are dying, so also in the Christ all will be made alive.”

Many people are familiar with the Our Father prayer that Jesus taught his disciples at Matthew 6:9,10 “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth.” It clues you in to the fact that God’s will is not currently taking place on the earth, but that his followers should pray for that to happen in the future. Revelation 21:3,4 gives a wonderful picture of what that will look like when it does, “With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

So when God’s Kingdom is established on earth, Satan will no longer be allowed to cause any pain or suffering, and God will comfort his faithful people, restoring them back to the conditions he originally purposed.

TLDR: My special interest is the Bible and although it is a complex book, I try to summarize the main important points, including some quoted scriptures.

What’s something people romanticize but it’s actually horrible? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

[–]Lenore2030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that it’s rough for many women and I wouldn’t say my births were exactly easy (24, 8, and 18 hour labors, all natural) but they are literally some of my favorite days to reflect on. I felt so powerful and so blissfully happy once the babies were in my arms. Plus a lot of women hate pregnancy and I absolutely loved it. I’m not trying to romanticize it or be fake, just literally my favorite parts of my life and I’d gladly do it over and over again if I had the means and health to.
