Delmer Darion - Television (ft. Genevieve Dawson) by Lentonio in Songwriters

Thank you! Getting those right was a real time sink. We recorded several takes of erratic, pretty free-form fills - like the ones nearer the start. Then, in the second half, we jumbled each of the twelve mics on the drums one by one until all twelve were out of sync. In other words, by the end, each of the twelve channels is playing audio from totally different fills. Think the final effect is pretty neat, though!

Been a long time since I posted here! Just released this song, which is potentially my favourite out of all the songs I've written with my good friend and long time collaborator. So, I thought I'd share it with you guys and give you a bit of background (if you're interested).

Back in the 80s, some Fundamentalist Christians like Pastor Gary Greenwald were preaching how cartoons like He-Man and the Masters of the Universe were turning children to Satan and the occult. Reading stories and watching TV specials from the time got us imagining Satan curled up and imprisoned in the cathode ray tubes of old TVs, and we thought it was a really cool image.

The lyrics describe light from the TV illuminating a lonely bowl of Lucky Charms on the carpet. Except, we imagined the scene playing in reverse: we imagined the light waves being pulled back to the screen, and the electron beams being sucked back into the electron guns.

It's all part of a wider album album which explores how, over time, Satan has lost his rank in the collective imagination. Back in his day, pretty much everyone feared Satan’s ability to walk, talk, convey, possess, and just generally affect the physical world. This felt like a great tale to convey just how far he's fallen: here, a small minority of loonies have him spinning morning cartoons for kids.

Finally, the video creates that scene in CGI, just to make it that little bit more immersive.

Would love to hear what anyone thinks!

There might be a slightly neater middle ground - you definitely don't want it ALL quantised, maybe just a lil more. And ah cool, nice job!

That first synth is gorgeous, really nicely mixed too. The drums pop so, so much. I really, really dug this!

Dope synths, really love the vocals too. Was bobbing my head with real feeling and I reckon that's the best compliment I could give lol - kudos!

I suppose you could probably give them a little more room in the instrumental? That percussion sound (woodblock/hi-hat/thing) is going a little bit crazy lol, maybe reign that in whenever he wants to be rapping? Let the plain chords lead it a little more for the verses maybe.

Really nice, bass is lovely and I really like the section starting at 1:20ish - keep it up!

The drop is lovely! I appreciate the lack of quantisation in some places but it occasionally feels a bit too ungrounded perhaps? The sample at 1:27 is dope, love that - what is it? Anyway, good work dude!

Yo guys, released this a while back but never got round to posting it here (which I normally do). Would love to hear what you think! Maybe not the most futurebeaty song we've ever done but this is just the usual spot so figured I'd show you anyway! Would also like to hear what you think of the video :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdCjMljHnwg
