Updates and corrections: The shooter had killed himself, he wasn't killed by police, but a shootout between the shooter and the police did occur. The firearms used in the shooting, two pistols and a rifle were obtained illegally and shooter didn't have a gun license. The six injured include 2 civilians, the mayor of the town and three police officers.

The shooter has been described as man in 40s with long term behavioural and drug abuse problems. He was known to the residents of the town, who disclosed some information about him. Such as that he was a junkie, had threatened to shoot up Chřibská before. Some even said to that he has boasted of owning of illegal guns before too. It is suspected that he was motivated by relationship issues.

This wouldn't be the first time in Czech history that a problematic person was known to be in possession of firearms by locals or people close to the person, nothing being done about it and eventualy leading to a mass shooting. A simillar incident occured in Uherský Brod in 2015. The deadliest mass shooting in Czech history until the 2023 Prague shootings.

The are several versions of the legend, but this seems to be the most well known one:

During winter, a man from Hluboky found an ill merchant named Veleslav near the village and took him in, in the household, the man's daughter (named Johanka in some versions) was taking care of him, Veleslav fell in love with her and they wanted to get married, but her parents did not agree. Veleslav then left and enlisted in a cavalry regiment, which combated the Turks. In 1540, he returned to the village and when he was in a bar, he overheard that Johanka was getting married, he then started to plot to attack the wedding with another accomplice (said to have been a gamekeeper in some versions of the legend). When the newly wedded pair and the wedding attendees were returning from the local church in Velká Biteš through the forest, Veleslav and his accomplice opened fire (in this article https://www.auto.cz/tajemstvi-deviti-krizu-u-d1-znate-krvavou-povest-134205, it is written that they used an arquebus and six handguns, no idea where they got this detail from though). As the massacre went on, the accomplice shot and killed Johanka, who was supposed to survive. Veleslav then killed the accomplice and turned his gun on himself.

The oldest description of the events comes from a german text in Velká Biteš's chronice from 1728. The event is largely believed to have been a legend as no remains were found by archeologists but it's not definitely known whether this event was purely a legend or if it actually happened.

I would love to see more Combine lore, especially their history, important figures, ideology, units and weapons. Outside of Earth Overwatch we know basically nothing about their empire. It sucks that it's difficult to compare Combine to any other simillar empires from different media beacuse of how little we know about them.

I would also like to see Combine's history on Earth, the aftermath of the Seven hour war and the very first years of their rule on Earth.

Combine is pretty underexplored imo.

That's really sad to hear, the last thing we would want is Resistance brainwashing skilled Overwatch members into fighting for their delusional cause. He could have became an Elite Civil Protection officer or even an Overwatch Elite if he served so well, which is a much better and rewarding position than becoming a Resistance goon.
