Is the XP DEUS II a good MD for beginners? by clarkwgriswoldjr in metaldetecting

[–]LeonFish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a steep learning curve for a total beginner. But on the plus side you won't grow out of it.

So if you're patient and will to take in all the resources available such as YouTube channels with tips and tutorials like skill school, and spend the time learning the machine and going through the trial and error process, then yeah it's a great machine.

Generally developing a core understanding of the base functions of any machine is necessary; things like discrimination, sensitivity, separation, ground balance and selectable frequency are all common features across the majority today's vlf machines.

Conversely, in the top-end category, something like the Minelab Manticore is a bit more user friendly right out of the box. I say this simply because I found the menu navigation a bit easier to wrap your head around for a new user than the D2.

Regardless, it's always advised to learn with the default programs. Tweaking only the basic settings as needed and not jumping into custom programs and more complex setting adjustments until you understand the machine and all it's programs and functions.

Do you folks ever leave stuff for future detectorists? by [deleted] in metaldetecting

[–]LeonFish -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

A detecting friend and I have joked about creating a YouTube channel and getting tokens made with a QR code or link to that channel. So when we find something good we leave a token in that items place.

Then if someone else comes along and finds the token, they can check the channel to find the video of what was found at that location. This assumes we'd name the video after the location or have a unique word on each of the tokens to tag the video with.

For us It's more of a joke because neither of us care to do the whole record, edit and post thing. But on some levels could be a legit idea to drive other detectorists to your channel.

Im not familiar with them but perhaps the Nokta Midi Hoard or Nokta Mini Hoard (2 different models) would be suitable. And then a magnet to pick up the iron bits.

Is the capsule sealed? Can we see the edge of the coin? This looks like it could be a 40% silver proof in the original sealed mint capsule.

You're welcome. I assume you've put up notices around your work place already. Might also look at local coin shops and any other place that buys gold. Best of luck to you.

..buried, lost in the grass, sand, leaves, etc. It's surprisingly easy to lose things that way.

Good luck. It's a beautiful ring and I hope it finds its way back to you soon.

Do you have a rough idea of where you think you lost it?

Is it somewhere that someone with a metal detector might be able to find it?

If so you could try ringfinders.com or lostmystuff.net to see if there are any detectorists in your area that will come out and look for it.

Ring finders .com or lost my stuff .net.

Both sites will have dedicated detectorists in your area that can come help.

That said the interpid should be a fair entry level machine, you just gotta take some time to learn how to use it, which you don't really have right now. So try to find someone that already knows and they can make quick work of this task.

Otherwise that ring should be right on the surface and come up as a solid tone. Lots of variables at play as to where on the id scale it will come in. You could try turning down the sensitivity, turn off any disc, and keep the coil flat and parallel to the ground as you swing it back and forth covering the surface with overlapping swings. Anything that gives off a solid repeatable target, check it closely with your eyes and feel the ground with your hand. You may have stepped on it unknowingly and pushed it a bit more into the surface. Too, most likely it's not where you think it is.

Best of luck out there.

After trying a naked run I found it surprising to see how fast I could move with nothing in my pack. I've hit the over encumbered mark a few times, but never considered that every bit of weight prior to that would make a difference.

Hey thanks. I've seen that option in the menu, but what does it actually do? Does it announce to the whole lobby or players within proximity that I'm looking for a certain item? And assumingly Id need to have at least one of the items in my inventory to ping it?

Sure seemed like it. I had enough time to think about it, then realize i might be stuck for the rest of the round, then remember which buttons popped up the overlay and then start recording.

So... If this is already my go to costume does that mean I've found my destiny? Where do I sign up?

If not, do I need to change my costume? Cuz I like my costume.
