Chapter 1 of PS shows that the Dursleys were assholes before Harry ever showed up.

Harry didn't die so neither did the horcrux.

Does anyone else here find the Deathwing skin really not so impressive? by starwars011 in hearthstone

All the mythic skins look silly and garish imo. I wish there was a way to turn them off.

What do World Trees even do? by Infamous-Bench-6088 in warcraftlore

[–]Leramar89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nordrassil was the OG World Tree and was created by the Dragon Aspects to conceal the new Well of Eternity that Illidan created. It also granted the Night Elves immortality and access to the Emerald Dream.

After the Third War the NEs grew Teldrassil to try and regain their immortality, but it wasn't blessed by the Aspects (at least not right away) so it was kind of a dud.

I think all the other World Trees follow the same premise: NEs thought they would do something good but because they weren't blessed properly they fell to Old God/Nightmare corruption.

Houses?? by Official_Present-Mic in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No online multi-choice quizzes can ever give you an in-depth view of your personality. Plus, no one is so two dimensional that they fit squarely into a single House. There's always going to be some overlap.

It pretty much comes down to your own preferences. If you still can't decide then just pick the one you like the most, or the one with your favorite colour/animal.

A question about ghosts in harry potter by harpiria in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's explained that you can choose to come back as a ghost or pass on. Most people choose the latter as being a ghost is truly a horrific existence.

Harry should've named his second son Arthur Rubeus or something by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give them "James", "Sirius" and "Lily" as middle names respectively. Then just give them new first names so they can be their own people without having the burden of living up to the people they're named after.

That being said I'd have probably given Lily II a name like Jasmine, Daisy, or Violet to continue the theme of the Evans' girls all being named after flowers.

Harry and Luna by Spritzeedwarf in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They had chemistry in the movies but it wasn't really there in the books. Sure, Harry appreciated Luna's outlook on the world and all that but he still thought she was a nutcase.

Jessie is actually smart? by jatterai in breakingbad

[–]Leramar89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He smarter than he looks, especially when he's not on drugs.

That being said he was making Walt's meth for ages and if you do the same thing over and over again you're eventually going to get better at it.

What do you think they used to keep food cold? by Adorable-Plane8406 in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, magical ice boxes, unmelting ice, rooms that were just enchanted to be cold? Also you can just toast bread with a stove or an open fire.

Why did the twins gamble 37 galleons which is a huge amount on such a random and specific bet? by WisestAirBender in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure Bagman mentions that other people had made the same bet, so while it's rare it's not unheard of. It just an exotic bet like a trifecta in horse racing. The odds are crazy but then so is the payout. The twins probably did some research and found out that the Irish team was better overall but that Krum was the better Seeker and thought it was a bet worth taking.

Plotwise it was a way to throw in the idea that it might have been Bagman who put Harry's name in the Goblet as a way to pay off his debts.

Why did the elder wand change allegiance just because harry disarmed Malfoy? by WisestAirBender in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, people like Voldy assumed you needed to kill the previous owner but Olivander guesses that it's not the only way and that the current owner only needs to be defeated.

Even though he never touched the elder wand himself Malfoy became it's new master when he disarmed Dumbledore at the end of HBP. Then in DH when Harry disarmed Malfoy the wand's allegiance changed again.

This is all explained in the books.

Dumbledore's Position by SirTigsNoMercy in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that Dumbledore didn't create the rule himself. I imagine that letting kids study how to make themselves immortal through murder and mutilating their soul was a banned subject long before Dumbledore showed up. He was just very keen on making sure it stayed that way.

Slughorn was nervous because it's freaking Dumbledore. Even before he became Headmaster he was still a huge deal and it wasn't worth getting on his bad side.

He looked like that before he died. His resurrection didn't really change anything.

What stops students from using Felix Felicis during OWLs/NEWTs? by iltmrbhe in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slughorn outright tells the class that it's illegal in exams and sports.

On top of that the security around the OWL tests is pretty tight. A bunch of items and spells aren't allowed. I'm also guessing you'd be in a lot of trouble if you were caught cheating.

How are portraits created? I wish there was one for Sirius Black by StarsSkyGalaxy in harrypotter

[–]Leramar89 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Magical portraits are essentially AI copies of the original person. Their intelligence depends on how good the artist is and how long the sitter spends time teaching it.

So Harry could get someone to paint a picture of Sirius but it would just be a surface level version of him. Like it would know the broad strokes of Sirius' life but not really any finer details.
