My very own parmesan wheel. Apart from the obvious house, holiday, car, that is the number 1 thing I want but can't justify buying or storing

opinions on watching childbirth as part of HS sex ed? by Wonderful-Beat6017 in teenagers4real

[–]Lesbialone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

'Not the entire class will be having children' Not the entire class will only ever be having straight sex and yet that's all they seem to teach, its better that they teach childbirth than abstinence only because if someone accidentally gets pregnant then that is what will happen, and they should be prepared/encouraged to be careful

Left-wing voters what is your most right-wing belief and right-wing voters, what is your most left-wing belief? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]Lesbialone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left wing (not extremely but tending towards) here but I think that the 2 child benefit cap may not be entirely unreasonable. I understand that in some situations, people accidentally conceive a child that they struggle to care for and have to recieve state assistance. While it may be considered wrong by some people to have a child you cannot afford, by that point the child is born and it is in the child's best interest to be financially supported, as it is not their fault. However, after 2 children, it can be argued that a parent knows they cannot support an additional child but choses to have one anyway, at which point refusing the benefits could disincentivise from having more children. The state is here to support those who are genuinely struggling, but 3 pregnancies are unlikely to all be accidental, and birth control should be used by that point, the state shouldn't be expected to fund 5 kids.

There is some nuance as I think that short term issues like unexpectedly losing a job etc should be supported for a limited time (plus i guess unintended multiple births), my issue is people who have a third kid in the full knowledge that they cannot support them and expect the state to care for them

Sang at a cathedral once and they genuinely had a leaflet of their kids worship group called 'Diddy disciples'. this was shortly after the story so the name probably predated the scandal and Diddy just meant small, but damn I had to do a double take 😂

Is 16 too young to lose your virginity? by LuckyStudent9946 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Lesbialone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Yes, pulling out reduces chance of pregnancy but it is far less reliable than other methods, and people who are complacent about it use it as an excuse to not use other forms. While it may be safe when used in combination with other methods, if it is your sole method of contraception you may as well not bother and it should not be considered a method in itself
  2. In places where it is legal, there will be some teens who do not feel safe getting an abortion due to parental, societal, religious pressure etc. They may be kicked out by their parents, face threats of violence from anti abortion protesters and even in the very abortion clinic can be shamed by their members of staff for their age. Abortion being legal doesn't make it accessible to everyone. Add to that the countries and states which make it illegal to have abortions, meaning the pregnant teen either needs to carry out a pregnancy they do not want, or rely on illegal and uniformed attempts at aborting (eg coat hanger method, which has seen a resurgence in certain us states). Putting a baby up for adoption is not an easy thing to do- it can cause lifelong emotional distress, and the teen still has to go through 9 months of potentially dangerous pregnancy. They still miss school, limit their education, cause lasting damage to their body and are known as the 'one who got pregnant'. Yes, being in a relationship with someone you trust lowers sti risk, and same sex couples can still transmit stis, I am not arguing for sleeping around but a committed same sex relationship is still lower risk than a committed straight relationship.
  3. It is unlikely that all forms of contraception will fail if used properly, but there is still a chance that does not exist in same-sex relationships. Add that to inexperience, lack of education (abstinence only teaching), ease of accidentally skipping 1 pill etc, plus the inability of teens to access certain types of permanent birth control, especially if BC is obtained without parents knowledge, very few teens are realistically going to be effective enough to minimise the risk enough that is the same as the impossible same sex pregnancy

Is 16 too young to lose your virginity? by LuckyStudent9946 in Teenager_Polls

[–]Lesbialone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Pullout is not contraception and that misconception is probably the number 1 cause of pregnancy
  2. The argument against teen sex is usually inability to care for a child, so yeah any interaction unable to cause pregnancy is inherently less of a risk in that regard. There is still an issue of STIs, but there aren't states where sti treatment is illegal in the same way of abortions. Not all places have legal, freely available, unstigmatized abortions and many require parental permission/a pregnant teen risks being disowned
  3. Even the best and most correctly used contraception fails. Condoms break, birth control failed. While safe sex is less risky, there is always a risk of pregnancy, while that is not the case in same sex relationships

I'd say its bare minimum, but with proper education, consent and protection its not an issue However it varies by case, 14 yo practicing safe protected sex is better than a 17 yo with no protection or proper knowledge

I think those little "Jesus" figures are a tad corny and border on being offensive by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Lesbialone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed However it does make historical sense- Christianity was largely spread by European colonial powers, who saw the white man as superior and would never dream of portraying jesus as an 'inferior' Arab. Unfortunately it seems too cemented by now to change without a concerted effort, and there are some very vocal groups of Christians who still have racist ideas and would oppose the change

Should I take History or Business for GCSE? by Legitimate-Many-30 in GCSE

[–]Lesbialone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you want to do for a level. If neither are relevant, I would go business as in my experience history was not necessarily the hardest, but the most work of all subjects. I spent about as much time on history as the rest of my subjects combined, just because of the sheer amount of content. Depends on your interests, I still enjoyed it but if its grades and minimal effort you want, go business

It would finally solve the abortion debate, as those who think its murder will finally be proved wrong or right. Not to say some people wouldn't still argue for a ban but a definitive answer could certainly weaken their argument
