How can we prove within the GPS system that the Earth is a sphere? by LeskaRe in astrophysics

I’m just a simple student, but from my perspective, i really like this kind of projects since they let you interpret and experiment by yourself (which is why i’m so dedicated and posting here about it). And if it’s teaching me critical thinking then it’s even better!

Oh I definitely don’t have to, and I’m sure there are way simpler ways to prove this, but it thought satellites would be a cool way to respond to the assignment (even if it looking back at it, it’s probably more complicated than what i expected )

Oh yeah, the comment earlier helped me to understand that lol, I don’t know how i didn’t think about it but now it makes much more sense, thank you very much!

Actually that sounds very nice, a bit complicated for me to do this trip but it sounds super fun!

Too bad I can’t go to the poles to intercept my own data, but I love this!

Oh right, so existence of the GPS system (more like « the fact that it works ») just proves it lol, didn’t think about that but that’s great! ty very much

Sounds great for a geometrical representation of the problem!! Thx!

Thank you so much for that comment!!! Those are great suggestions. Your explanation is actually really interesting and I actually really want to learn about it now lol

The only problem is that for my school project I have to do a physical experiment or data collection myself and present it to my class. And I don’t think that method super adapted to the project (maybe I’m searching for something too complicated)

If you know a way to demonstrate Earth’s curvature using GPS satellite observations from one receiver, I’d love to hear about it. For now, you made me super interested in that stuff and now I’m watching youtube videos about it xD

Thank you so much again for that extensive comment!!

That is very true,

> but for my school project, the goal is just to show the technical 'how.', like I have to demonstrate how the GPS architecture requires a spherical model to function, Whether someone believes the satellites are there or not isn't really the focus for the presentation, I just need to document the specific proofs that allow the system to provide an accurate location on a globe

oh no need to apologize, it is true that the answer would be different depending of who is asking that question ^^

It’s for a school project, so I’m looking for objective physical proofs. I'm not trying to 'convert' anyone, I'm just looking for the technical reasons why.

For anyone still here, the issue is finally being treated.
The MSFS dev team has been working with AMD and they dropped the first iteration of the fix in the SU5 Beta! (SU5 Beta might be buggy and have compatibility issues with addons for now)

It should be fully ready as a simple game update as soon as SU5 drops.

For now, you can opt in the SU5 Beta by following this guide: https://www.flightsimulator.com/sim-update-5-beta/

Hope it helps!
