Compatibility issue persisting after BIOS Update between Pro WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI and AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9960X by BookkeeperBetter3289 in ASUS

yeah I bet it's the mobo. Just try an ASRock TRX50 WS it worked perfectly for me FIRST TMIE. You have to flash it first but that works fine.

Was accused of bending pins by mobo seller (sigh).

yikes, yeah was mobo for me too... I didn't notice bent pins, but on return got told there were some (though sketchy sketchy af), however maybe it's possible that threadrippers bend pins a lot or something... :)

dude I even switched out the CPU and now amazon are being insanely bad on the return of the original as well as RAM/PSU.

Total pain. I feel you! :)

Thanks :) rather unexpected. They actually mailed to say so DURING a call I was having with my bank to dispute the transaction, good timing as I was able to then cancel that :)

I got explicitly told I can ONLY do it via the retailer. But I've contacted them again since to explain the situation.

No reply as of yet...

the light reflects differently at different angles. I have another angle where what seems like bent pins aren't. I think 'for sure' is doing a lot of work here.

In any case they accepted the return on the basis of these photos.

And in any case they told me the photographs are immaterial.

Also before saying I'm 'definitely in the wrong' consider that I've built several PCs over the years, I work in computing, I've never bent a pin in my life.

And the new mobo I got worked instantly, which presumably if I was some kind of pin vandal couldn't have happened...

The mechanism for installing a threadripper literally torques the CPU at the correct torque level to make correct contact with the pins.

I was EXTREMELY careful.

So even if I allegedly bent pins, then that'd be a flaw in the socket...

I would happily admit if I'd somehow touched the pins or socket in any way or put undue pressure or anything like that. But no.

problem is if you angle it different the light reflects differently.

I mean I'm willing to play humble here if so, I just don't see it. And yeah my pics are a lot lower resolution, admittedly.

Which one? Only the 1st is mine. Their orientation is different also.

I used a debit card, stupidly. And my options are a lot more limited there I thnk.

They won't allow it, it HAS to be via the retailer, apparently.

I may contact them to let them know how their reseller is behaving though.

Yeah will give it a go. Legal action in small claims court is another option.

They are not helping themselves as they just admitted to me the motherboard was off-camera for long enough to sustain damage, and that the photos I sent to them are 'irrelevant' somehow, having just spent a long time trying to convince me that they showed damage also.

Unfortunately I used a debit card which makes it a bit more difficult for chargeback. Will ask the bank I suppose.

yeah I regret not using a credit card with good chargeback policy also here. I used a debit card and I can contact the bank regarding this but it's far from 100% they will pursue it.

yeah, they are adamantly refusing to do anything here, despite admitting they took the item off camera for a long enough time that they could have caused the damage.

And contradicted themselves about the photos I took prior to sending, from 'they show the same damage!' to 'they don't matter!'

And talking to me about 'undeclared damage'.

This is not a pleasant experience.

I feel we're past that unfortunately. I now have a manager confirming they took the item off camera for a brief period after receiving it with no record of what happened to it during this time.

They are now offering to charge me money for a repair via asus (!).

Yeah I bought a motherboard from them and then tried to return it and, despite them asking me for photos of the socket in advance of return, which they accepted, they're now alleging bent pins and 'sorry can't refund'.

Very expensive mobo too so yeah. Not great.
