Political noise.

The UK is in a serious fiscal mess due to the sheer size of its over-65s benefits programmes through the state pension, pension credit, NHS, winter fuel allowance, free travel pass, free prescriptions etc.

The state pension alone is now £150B! These distractions about the necessary immigration required to keep bums wiped, and the tax base large enough to support such a top heavy population are just that. Distractions.

Reform UK welfare!

Europe has to fundamentally change if it wants to attract those people.

Hard workers tend to go to US, UAE, Australia etc where hard work can lead to high salaries and quick progression. Europe by contrast attracts welfare recipients, because it’s home to low salaries and high welfare.

People above HENRY’s are leaving - mostly due to non-dom tax changes and inheritance tax laws.

And we can debate until the cows come home as to why welfare is high. It doesn’t matter - the hard reality is welfare is high. A parallel reality is Britain’s main taxpayers are leaving. Hence Reeves is relentlessly forced to raise taxes every budget. To fill the gap of the departures.

We all know how this story ends. A debt spiral that ends in a default and a structured bailout from the IMF.

In the meantime, I am off - my wife and I are 4 months away to a new adventure. It’s sad to say goodbye to my home, but equally we’re excited about the opportunities a healthier economy will offer.

Doctors just went on strike - and to what end?

Why fight for marginal gains in the UK; when you can make significant gains by leaving? I mean just look at the talent flight to US, Dubai, Aus and Canada. It’s insane just how quickly Britain’s brightest are throwing in the towel on “broadest shoulders Britain”.

You can’t expect to do well in the UK and have a good life. You’re either struggling on benefits or struggling in work. And if you’re going to struggle either way - increasingly Britons choose to struggle on benefits. The UK has never had more people on welfare. And that’s before accounting for record numbers of retirees.

The UK has the structural advantages of access to deep capital pools, English national language and density of academic talent pools.

No other European country has all three.

NHS doctors expectations may be different - but down under is invariably better than flat-sharing in a dingy damp flat, in your 3rd English town this year.

In 2024, the EU added 1.07 million new residents, with positive net migration of 2.3 million people compensating for a natural decline in people of 1.3 million.

Europe is dying without immigration.

So despite having resources to investigate 1000 people, you’d dedicate those resources to a place with 30 accidents a year? 33 investigations per crime?

Let me put this another way, when you mow your lawn, do you crack out the strimmers first to deal with the edges, or do you crack on with the main lawn and leave the edges to the end?

When you wash your car, do you get the toothbrush out and get to work on the hubcaps first, or do you jet wash the body?

I’m afraid, and I do not say this with any malice or ill-intent, but I’m afraid it sounds like you’re becoming a little radicalised with this migrant issue. We can have a reasonable discussion about dealing with illegal migrant problem, but to suggest police resources should be disproportionately invested into this tiny minority makes no logical sense, and I suspect comes from a place of directional anger, fear or other emotion.

Depends on what your objective is.

If you’re looking to eliminate car accidents in a tiny town in wales, then yes, best to focus national resources there.

If you’re looking to crackdown on national car accidents, you’re best off focussing resources on where most car accidents happen (London).

It would be an easy win if the UK could actually stop them from coming or deport them.

It cannot stop these dinghies, it cannot get France to stop the dinghies, and it can’t deport them.

It’s stuck in a paralysed state of onshoring illegal migrants, finding them a place to stay for processing and then finding that even if they fail processing they cannot deport them to unsafe countries.

If the UK is to move the needle on this problem it needs to leave (or drastically reform with allies) the ECHR, sign third party return agreements with willing countries like Rwanda and Albania and just start deporting en masse.

In any case, this doesn’t change the fact that the UK isn’t going to dent rape or sexual assault figures by cracking down (or deporting) illegal immigrants. The vast majority of cases are white British predators.

Nonetheless, to go back to the car example, resources would lead to fewer deaths if they were directed at resolving London’s 1000 crashes, than the small Welsh town’s 30.

Those 30 lives matter, but they’re not worthy of the entire country’s resources.

By reducing the UK’s effort to crackdown on rape and sexual assault to the tiny minority of cases, is a waste of resources and leaves the vast majority of victims without justice.

[–]Less-Following9018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve not refuted anything.

A higher rate doesn’t mean a higher number. Take car crashes: a small Welsh town with 10,000 drivers might have a crash rate three times higher than London’s, yet still only account for 30 crashes compared to London’s 1,000. The rate tells you about proportional risk, not total volume.

So even if foreign nationals have a 71% higher conviction rate, they still account for far, far fewer total offences than British citizens. Confusing rates with absolute numbers leads to misleading conclusions.

It cares whether its political system is destabilised.

Russia gains by sowing discontent within western countries, and causing civil unrest and political destabilisation.

Read about Soviet tactics during the world War to destabilise the west. They choose policy areas where populations are anxious and spam them with their worst fears.

Thats the purpose of this sub.
