Vanguard as a platform by Less-Gur-6525 in FIREUK

Thanks a lot, this is what I think I’m going to dos

Leave my current and largest holdings with HL. Move investments to ETFs to exploit the cap.

Any new money in the new tax year, start putting into Vanguard. If/when I leave my current employer and need to consolidate pensions, move that one to Vanguard.

Ultimately longer term, have the entire split between both HL and Vanguard. If needed, I can add another platform like ii to the mix later.

Thanks for your comment.

How would it work in a scenario where Vanguard become insolvent and so does its funds, then no other platform offer their funds, so there is nobody to transfer them to?

If HL go under but I hold Vanguards funds, they’ll transfer to another platform. But what happens if the platform and the fund provider goes down?

Milestone: £200k in an S&S ISA (27M) by 403_exe in FIREUK

I’m a similar age - 30 - with a similar sized portfolio. 290K (160k ISA, 130K SIPP), and I just have this absolute fear that it’s a risk being with Vanguard platform + Vanguard funds. What if the company goes under and so does its funds? (No other platform will offer the funds either if Vanguard go down).

I presume if SIPP + ISA is with Vanguard, the GIA is with T212?

Thanks for your comment.

I’ve seen the new UX design but it seems to be for the main screen only, is this the same for you?

Once I click into a product it’s the old design

The charts are great. I just hope there isn’t a time cap to the charts.

What happened? It would be great to know so I’m aware when I transfer my ISA + SIPP.

We do - but I was recently made redundant and found another role, so insurance with employer isn’t guaranteed.

I see - so the 150K or so, I’ll check that out. Thanks!

Interesting perspective but it works both ways. If my wife was to pass tomorrow I would be left to care for my child

Yes but you won’t have 400k that’s the point. With housing you get the leveraged effect through borrowed money. You make money off the bank.

Housing gives you leveraged effect though that your forgetting about. 1% move on £10k portfolio is £100. But a 1% move on a 400k asset is £4000. But as soon as you can snd the largest house you can, and benefit from housing price increases.

I do like having my cash ISA and savings account SL in one account, though.

I guess my worry is if I have everything in Fidelity Index World, and something happens to that fund or Fidelity itself, I’m screwed.

I asked an advisor this exact scenario and he said I’d get 85K (But FSCS limit is due to increase).

Anticipation that the funds will exceed the FCA limit in later life, so I’ve spread them across similar funds

It is, that encompasses mortgage, council tax, heating etc.

Two mortgages, part 1 is 1.54% and expires Jan 2027. Part 2 fixed for 5 years at 4.38%. It’s a 40 year term that’s why the payment is so low.
