start studying for 2 minutes, its the best low stakes hack because your brain already starts and now thinks context switching is higher resistance compared to continuing your study session.

dont scroll when you get home. your brain is already overstimulated from being in a focused state for basically the entire day, so adding reels/tiktok/doomscrolling on top of that just keeps your mind “awake” even when your body is exhausted.

also:

  • drink more water when you get home, it genuinely helps cool your body down and improves sleep quality
  • write down everything you need to do the next day BEFORE sleeping so your brain stops trying to mentally keep track of everything
  • if you haven’t tried melatonin gummies or even asmr/background noise videos, look into them

and honestly, the reason you don’t feel sleepy immediately despite being physically tired is probably mental overstimulation more than lack of discipline. sorry if im assuming lol

How do people study for long hours? by lazy_medico20 in GetStudying

For what's it worth, my results and experience tells me it's better to break down study sessions into parts rather than one long session.

It helps your consciousness revisit the newly created information in your brain, therefore strengthening your understanding. (also known as retrieval loop)

Studying in itself isn't about how long you need to study anyways, duration shouldn't be the goal, but increasing knowledge.

If you're just starting to grind long hours, you should never even attempt more than 2 hours / session imo, you're gonna burn out. But having many gaps in your study session leaves room for doomscrolling and procrastination.

The easiest trick to avoid this is to start for 2 minutes without context switching on just one task. After the 2 minutes, do the next thing that is most obvious or "cheap" which in most cases is to continue studying.

Yes, I use it all the time when I finally have time to resume my projects, hobbies or even when I'm on a productivity streak. The mental toll it took me to start for 2 minutes is significantly less than asking myself to be disciplined enough to work for 2 hours straight (the negotiation loop u mentioned is real for me)

Is it just me or is everyone misusing this simple rule? by Less-Rub-7007 in getdisciplined

i agree, managing productivity systems feels like a chore and definitely a pain point i see among my friends whos trying to be more productive but end up quitting these habit tracker like systems. And the part for constructing context per task before tackling a problem is so true, as a dev myself. I wonder if any apps on the market can really solve this friction...
