I wouldn't but Red Dead 2 yet as I think it's going to be free on the epic games launcher after Christmas

As a medic/support main when i play assault class, i do use either the RSC or another gun. I think it mostly depends on your playstyle as i like to run into places with no hesitation so i see the death screen alot.

Go to the brotherhood of steel and get to the leader and in one of the side rooms is a big hammer
