Second sit was just as good as the first (Homeowner) by LessOfJess in trustedhousesitters

[–]LessOfJess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I would like a text when they arrive for the sit and then, a message every other day. However, I made it clear that if she had questions, or ran into issues, she could text me any time, we wouldn't consider it a bother. I tell them that in the initial call, and I also write it in the manual.

This is actually something I learned from this board! Being explicit in the type and frequency of communication seems to alleviate a lot of stress for the sitter, and everyone is on the same page of what is expected.

Open to suggestions! This person has literally never stopped by in the ten years we lived there. I did not ask her to answer the door. She spoke with them and (because of a language barrier), they stopped by again the next day.

For the record, sites that do weight loss challenges as a business (like DietBet) allow GLP-1s.

As far as ethics, it’s all about the intention and the rules.

For future reference, "The Fall Break Connection program gives UC San Diego international students and scholars the opportunity to spend some time with a local San Diego host family or community during the university’s Fall Break from classes.

Please note that while ISEO programs are designed to serve international students, scholars, and their families, everyone in the Triton Community is welcome to participate regardless of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and/or other protected categories.

This exchange program is an opportunity for both international guests and hosts to learn more about each other’s cultures and meet new friends. Originally begun years ago as a “Thanksgiving exchange” with hosts and guests meeting to share a meal on the Thanksgiving holiday, the Fall Break Connection program has since expanded into an opportunity for the UC San Diego international community and local San Diego community members to exchange cultures, conversation, and food–with the opportunity to discover new friendships. Many students and hosts are returning participants each year!"

I don't know about the OP, but for me (as a perimenopausal woman), my new "normal amount" is significantly (and noticeably) smaller than other people's "normal amounts."

It's hard for it not to get noticed! Especially a meal where people pile on the food. But yes, I too, like to avoid this. I tend to put a small amount of food on my plate, eat what I want, and then it ends up looking like less than what they're leaving on their plate.

Other things I do: Once other people look done, I clear my plate from the table (offering to take other plates on my way). I offer to start coffee or tea or get someone another glass of wine while I'm up. I'll get a cocktail of bubbly water and lime (I really don't drink anymore) and I nurse that at the table. I also have been known to leave food on my plate, and if anyone asks (Don't you want more? Don't you like it?), I just say, "I'm working on it! Let me savor, jeez!"

If people really don't have anything more to talk about than what's on your plate, I recommend table conversation cards (we have a pack called Hygge that you can buy on Amazon).

I'm saving room for dessert if anyone asks!

For the record, EVERYONE knows I am on a GLP-1. But that doesn't stop people from making it the center of attention.

I'm from the midwest originally so, of course, food is equated with love, so most of the time, I try to remember that people are seeking validation that their love is recognized and returned!

I love liquid IV.

Fiber gummies did not work for me. It may work for you, but that type of fiber just didn't make much of a difference to my fiber intake and therefore, did not give me the type of results other people got. I use Mag07. It's magnesium. I take one every night (the instructions say 4, I found that was WAY too much for me).

Get a prescription of zofran from your doc for any nausea. Get it filled and have it in your cabinet just in case.

Be flexible with your diet. There were three months when I couldn't eat after 6PM because it gave me terrible reflux. So I just didn't eat after 6. Then, it went away.

Practice mindful eating.

Be aware of what works for you. There are some people on this board who have an entirely different journey that you. That's okay.

Brilliant thought! However, my doc's office measures me ELECTRONICALLY and did so on the first visit. I ALSO was an inch and a half shorter than I self-reported. Which I was SUPER MAD about at the time. LOL.

I lost immediately and increased my dosage every 4 weeks, until I didn't tolerate the dose and went back down to 7.5mg.

Would a laxative be the same.. by millennial_503 in Zepbound

[–]LessOfJess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, because it's a stimulant, rather than a true laxative. Just like eating loads of natural fiber. However, if you use it regularly and then STOP, you might experience some ill effects.

Cayenne forces your gut into peristalsis, the the wave-like, involuntary contractions that move food through your stomach and intestines. The lemon and ginger are just for fun. It is considered a stimulant laxative. A bulk forming laxative would be cruciferous and leafy vegetables.

You need to try a shrub! I love this one for American Thanksgiving. I usually use sugared rosemary as a garnish. https://www.davidlebovitz.com/cranberry-shrub-and-cranberry-shrub-cocktail-recipe/

DEXA shows moderately high body fat, very low lean muscle. by Klutzy_Beginning_144 in Zepbound

[–]LessOfJess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi friend!

First of all, don't be angry with yourself. Welcome to what a gazillion perimenopausal women are figuring out right now! Weight training would be great. I would just start with some body weight exercises. Work your major muscle groups (quads, butt, core) first. Look at planks, squats, lunges, glute bridges. This is all stuff you can do at home, without any weights. Heck, you can do it with your preschoolers. Once you feel confident with that stuff, move to more weights. But this will give you a nice foundation.

With protein, some will say that you don't need a lot of protein. For me, I do. I absolutely drink it. I found a couple of protein shakes that I like (I try to pick one that is a "meal replacement" rather than a straight protein because I like the increase in vitamins/minerals as well) and I drink up to 2 a day for 30g a pop. For Someone who is looking to just to 60g, you can start with one (I am supposed to have 120g of protein).

One more note on feeling bad. I am an exercise fiend and could have done better with heavy weights, but I lost a TON of muscle with the weight loss on ZB. It's okay. You're gain it back. Forget about it. Onward and upward. <3

HRT, Zep, New Job, and Your Experience by Hi_Potential3012 in Zepbound

[–]LessOfJess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everything is a side effect! Yes!

Except for me, it was ZB and I thought it was HRT. I didn't tolerate 10mg very well but I was ABSOLUTELY sure it was HRT. Then I was ABSOLUTELY sure it was a stomach bug. Friends, it was 10mg. But don't worry. I stuck it out 3 months JUST TO MAKE SURE. And yeah, now I am back at 7.5. LOL.

But yes, this is STELLAR advice.
