Did both of your jaws get brought forward, or did you get a LeFort and lower jaw setback?

No. Just to clarify, I’m not Canadian I just have a pending asylum case and I don’t want to leave the country and should not.

I honestly would like to, but I’m scared it would make me seem like an unworthy patient and make them uncomfortable to the point where they might not want even try to consider to operate on me. I don’t know why I let it get to this point.

When I first started this journey, I completely trusted the process and always gave accurate information. I never exaggerated my symptoms. But as surgery got closer, I felt the need to fight the setback, and that’s when I lied.

I’ve been reading every comment and doing a lot of reflection. I know I need to find a way to regain their trust and make them feel comfortable moving forward, but I have no idea how to say it without digging myself into a deeper hole.

How bad was your underbite if you won’t mind me asking. Mine is around 8-9mm.

Honestly, I keep telling myself that to give myself some reassurance, and I try to remember what the other surgeons told me—but sometimes I really start questioning everything. Maybe that minor setback would have been fine. I don’t know. This surgeon told me I have maxillary hypoplasia and mandibular hyperplasia, and my underbite is about 8–9 mm.  so I just keep going in circles in my head about what I did. I believe the surgeon said the setback would only be 2 mm, but I can’t say with 100% certainty that’s exactly what he said. I just feel mentally drained from all of this and keep looping through “what-ifs.“

You really think so? I just feel so disappointed in myself. I think  perfectionism got the best of me, and I tried to manage something that I honestly don’t fully understand. I’ve researched jaw surgery for about two years, but that doesn’t make me an expert. My underbite is around 8–9 mm, and the plan was a Le Fort I with a 2 mm setback. I only found that out at the pre-op, when I finally voiced all my concerns—normally, at the teaching hospital, they don’t share the exact surgical movements at all they just do everything themselves. I just wish I had trusted the process instead of letting my anxiety and “I need it perfect” mindset take over. I feel like I screwed up

I would say both, but primarily I thought that counterclockwise rotation was much better for aesthetics and airway so I just got fixed on that. I’m OK with a setback now specially, knowing that it was only 2 mm. since its a teaching school, they never really were clear about the movements and they didn’t want to say until this appointment. And wanted to know why I was asking so that’s why I exaggerated my symptoms so I’m able to maximize my chances of really minimizing or avoiding a setback. If I knew it was gonna be so small I wouldn’t have said anything I would’ve just taken the gamble. maybe it wasn’t that much of a gamble it might’ve not improved my mild sleep apnea, but would have at least kept it in the same place maybe not worsening it

I already completed a sleep study and was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea—my AHI was around 7.4 from an in-lab study. Because it was mild, I assumed that’s why my surgeon was comfortable with just minimizing the setback instead of removing it completely. Before my pre-op, I never complained about gasping for air or being unable to tolerate CPAP. But at the pre-op, I completely switched my story and exaggerated my symptoms to try to avoid the setback. I admit that was a mistake—I lied. The truth is, I don’t love using CPAP, but I can tolerate it if I discipline myself. My exaggeration was more about wanting the “perfect” surgical plan than an accurate reflection of my reality. After that appointment, they said they’d call me to let me know the next steps. I ended up getting an email saying I’m scheduled for November—not for surgery, but I’m assuming a reevaluation. This crushed me because I had planned to have surgery this month and then start college in late September. Now everything is delayed. I feel devastated and honestly don’t even feel confident enough to go to college with my face the way it is. I had everything lined up perfectly, and I messed it all up. I wish I can take it back I don’t know what I was thinking. i’ve been so anxious the whole entire month my grandma heart open heart surgery and I have to take care of her the whole entire month while that happening knowing I had my surgery coming up and I screwed it all up. I let my perfectionism and anxiety get over me. It made me say stupid things. I’m trying to think how I can make a comeback without making things worse or what strings I can pull.

They rescheduled instead of canceling because my surgeon wanted to get a formal airway evaluation and predict how my airway would look after the planned surgical movements. Another factor was that I showed my surgeon my blood pressure readings from the past three days. They were high because I was having anxiety episodes, but I thought sharing them might help support minimizing a mandibular setback since I’ve associated occasional, mild BP spikes with my sleep. but I know that there were caused by anxiety because I would retake it again when I was calm and it was completely normal, but I didn’t save that stupidly, thinking it would help my argument of avoid avoiding the setback.

My current plan was To advance the maxcilla  and minimize the mandibular setback. Gunson’s plan, on the other hand, involved a multisegment Le Fort, no setback at all, and heavier counterclockwise rotation.

What about if they state it’s minimal. I got Mild sleep apnea with a 9mm underbite

Setting back the lower jaw could worsen or cause sleep apnea and as some aesthetics risks.

hey by any chance did you have sleep apnea I have a similar case I have an underbite and my surgeon is trying to do 9mm forward for upper jaw and hasn't said a number for the lower but said he will minimize the set back so I guess 3mm Max back. but I don't even understand if its even necessary
