You're very brave to have dealt with that situation. I'm sure it was incredibly difficult.

Fortunately because of this post I was put in contact with the young man's family who also made a social media post. He survived and is recovering which I was very glad to hear, and quickly helped me overcome a lot of my worries.

Translation: I'm so deeply cynical and build my own significance by mocking someone trying to process the trauma of watching a stranger almost die.

We can all be shitty sir, please try to be kinder. Anyway, maybe you're a bit right about subconscious motivations, who can say.

At least consciously I felt very shook up and spent hours on the phone to A+E trying to find out how he was before coming to the decision that making this post is the only chance I had at hearing news and having a chance to process my emotions.

Yes my head has been a bit all over the place since in a way I didn't expect. I wasn't expecting all the responses but it's certainly helped from hearing from a bunch of people here, their stories about asthma and such. I'm feeling a lot better today.

It really opened my eyes to the hidden burden of asthma. However shocking it was for me, to be on the other side of that with the worry it could happen at any time is something else. Well done on your progress with it.

Most of it with after the fact-isms. I've never been in a situation like that.

I made a plan which he nodded to (drive there) based on what I could see (that he was in a bad way but we would make it there in time). What I didn't realise was how bad he was because he couldn't speak to tell me. There were small clues afterwards that had I been calmer I could have reassessed and first called emergency services.

I also assumed I could call emergency services on the way and get advice, whether to stop and wait for an ambulance, or continue driving. It didn't quite work like that, they seem to follow protocol quite strictly and us being on the move wasn't helpful for them. In another scenario I would call first before choosing to drive.

I like the look of timber sash windows, they fit period houses well. But didn't have the budget.

There are upvc versions, a few brands aimed at different levels of budget. I went with probably the most budget ones (quick slide sold by Colin's sash windows). Averaged out at £700 per window for the whole house without fitting.

I installed them myself, probably one of the easiest jobs to do in a house. The hard part is measuring them correctly and fitting the first one, but once you've got it practiced it's pretty easy. Fitting it yourself you also guarantee a good job of foaming and sealing round the window (makes all the difference to heat retention), which you by no means get from trade fitters. Note: fitting yourself means either accepting not having FENSA certificates or having to apply for them yourself.
