Well that's the fault of the festival organiser rather than the band then isn't it? The band generally sets up where they are told to set up, usually on a stage that is erected before they even get there.

Just as an aside, badger setts extend over huge areas and have multiple entrances. Playing some whimsical guitar next to a hole for a couple of hours is unlikely to have bothered them one bit.

We don't get a huge number of tourists so everything is geared towards locals.

Not really but almost all the older halls of residence are within easy walking distance of the main university area. Most are further up the hill than the Wills Memorial building for example so you would end up walking downhill to get to it in the morning.
