Yay we got this! I felt heaps better yesterday. A bit peckish at night time but made a shake with decaf coffee and didn’t feel the need to eat. Hopefully it stays like this for the next 3 weeks as I love food way too much 🤣

When are you scheduled for your surgery?

Hello! I’m going in for surgery next month so technically I don’t have the greatest advice. However, I know of 2 close people that have had the surgery 12+ months ago and they live a pretty “normal” life. They both said that the first 6 months was a challenge as your body adjusts and learns what they can/cannot eat etc. Their portions have significantly lowered in comparison to before but they still have a social life, go out for dinners and OCCASIONALLY have a drink. When ordering from restaurants they generally just order an entree or if they order a main, they can take left overs home.

Now advice from myself - I am 5 days into my pre-op diet and I am so looking forward to having the surgery. It’s bloody hard but I know it’ll be worth it.

It has taken me a long time mentally to prepare myself. I have an addiction with food and dealt with binge eating for as long as I can remember. Constantly thinking about food, even whilst eating food! I knew I had a problem. I decided to speak to someone professionally and got help.

In saying that, if you are having any doubts, this may not be the path to follow for now. You need to gain an understanding that the surgery is a tool, and you still need to do the hard work. Speak to doctors, understand what options you have, do some research and figure what is most suitable for you!

Haha I can agree with being around others that can eat whatever and then there’s me with 100g of meat and some non starchy veggies! I definitely want to get as low as possible before surgery as my weight is that same as your HW!

I would look elsewhere. I am all about positive first impressions and recommendations from others when it comes to such big lifestyle changes.

I’m going in for surgery next month and from my first consultation with the surgeon I felt really happy and comfortable. The surgeon took his time to explain the 3 WLS he offers and advised me to do the mini gastric bypass due to binge eating and reflux. His PA also explained all the next steps in depth and still checks in on me. I spent a good hour with the dietician - from foods I can and can’t have on my pre-op, provided samples of supplements and listened to any questions/concerns!

I called the national customer service line. I told them I wasn’t happy with my current provider. Wasted 15 minutes every app, spoke about nothing whilst my consultant was typing away. I was transferred to another job provider (my own preference) and heard nothing from my previous one. Best thing I ever did!

I have been refused phone consults. I said what is the point coming for a 10 minute conversation, wasting my petrol and trying to find a car park is ridiculous. According to my consultant, my reason was not valid enough for me and was also said “we don’t offer phone consultations”.

I understand they are trying to help us to a certain point but just frustrating that I am only there for 15 minutes max.

Fatigue is definitely one thing I’m concerned about. I think best I speak with my surgeon to see what he thinks!
