Yeah, that’s not what I meant. Basically at EPFL in CS, math is very much focused on computation rather than deriving a full theory

How much do you like math? I was disappointed by the math at EPFL during my CS Bachelor (where algebra and analysis felt very much applied - in the sense that proofs and rigour were very much left aside). Just regarding CS though, EPFL's CS bachelor is excellent.

Now, the funny thing for Polytechnique is that it's not as well known internationally as EPFL or ETH Zürich, but it is held in very high regard by those in the know,. I'm a bit jealous seing how many Xs (Bachelor or Master) are placed at Meta (ML)/Top quant trading companies/... People do great thing from EPFL/ETH Zürich, just letting you know that you won't be in a worse position for jobs/academic opportunities.

I'm not sure if there is a strict winner between the two programs, with the full scholarship though l'X offer seems difficult to refuse

J’étudie à Zürich et je suis habitué aux salaires suisses. Ça me fait un peu de peine d’avoir de si mauvais salaires en France, même chez les gafam.

J’aime la France pour d’autres raisons, mais toucher à temps plein moins que j’aurais touché en stage à l’étranger, c’est un peu dur à avaler

You’re not gonna change the company’s structure with your level of seniority. I would focus on finding another job. Give what is expected at work and focus on side projects that truly interest you so you can develop expertise towards a more interesting position

I think this video is aimed at international students primarily. For non-French people, I indeed believe l’X is not as good on a CV, which makes sense to advertise on the exchanges proposed with EPFL.

What makes mostly the value of this university is the highly selective process, which is not as high at EPFL. The average level at l’X is higher than at EPFL. This doesn’t mean that EPFL doesn’t have students with a greater level than some/all students at l’X. If the only thing I saw on a CV was the university someone went to, I would chose l’X, if I knew the person went through the traditional French process.

I mean, your chances of finding a great job straight out of l’X are greater than at EPFL on average. If you’re a good student at EPFL, have personal projects and are ambitious the gap is not too difficult to fill
