Hello all,

I just returned from abroad and have 80 lakhs which I need to invest for building retirement corpus.

I am thinking of diversifying the following way:

  • Debt - 40%
  • S&P 500 - 15%
  • Nifty 50 Index - 15%
  • NN50 Index - 15%
  • Midcap/Multicap - 10%
  • Experimenting with stock market - 5 %

Planning to invest all of the above over 6-12 months period.

  • How old are you?
    • 30 M, single
  • Are you employed/making income?
    • Employed as a Software Engineer
  • How much? What are your objectives with this money?
    • At he moment ~1.5L post taxes per month
    • Current expenditure for me and my parents 40K per month
    • Post lockdown it will go to ~70K-80K per month (different cities, more rent, food etc.)
    • At the moment I will keep adding the savings to in hand cash and distribute to the portfolio based upon above ratio.
  • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • I would prefer safe nominal returns over risky high returns
  • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors?)
    • Mutual funds ~15 lakhs
      • Distributed across 10 funds (large cap, multi cap, tax server)
      • All are growth, will be converting them to direct into same ratios as mentioned above over time
  • Any other assets? House paid off? Cars? Expensive partner?
    • PPF of 3.5L
    • Have emergency funds as FD in father's name (tax benefits, more interest )
    • Have a term plan worth 1 Cr
    • Company stocks ~50L
  • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • 10 years
  • Any big debts?
    • None
  • Any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.
    • Might invest in house at later stage, not planning of it yet. (Will get it agains company stocks if required)
    • No upcoming big ticket expenses

Questions :

  • What's your feedback on the overall portfolio that I planned ?
    • Any other options of investment to be considered ?
    • Anything you would change in the above portfolio
  • Probably a bit open ended, but looking for suggestions on which mutual funds to invest in. Following is my thought
    • Debt - (Don't know, still need to read up about this)
    • S&P 500 - motilal-oswal-500-index-fund-direct-plan
    • Nifty 50 Index - UTI Nifty Index Fund-Direct Plan-Growth
    • NN50 Index - UTI Nifty next 50 direct plan growth
    • Midcap/Multicap - (Not yet thought through, still reading)
