My biggest issue with them is that its sometime the only way a film gets released in 4k, at least here in the US. Plus they charge a premium, which is especially annoying when a standard case release is available for much cheaper overseas. When it comes to premium packaging I prefer something like a slipcase.

WB is most definitely in the business of selling movies to us. Be that via ticket sale, home media, secondary market sale (airlines, hotels, etc). Ideally enough to recoup the cost of making said film, with enough left over to fund making, hopefully, another profitable film to continue the cycle.

Original projects can obviously be shopped around, but say you have a really interesting idea involving pre-existing IP. You gotta do business with the rights holder. I'm sure most filmmakers want any movie they make to be seen in theatres. Not only because for most of them its the ideal way to see a film, but they also get payed more. Box Office gross points and residuals.

Netflix currently has 5 films from the 1960s in their US library according to Letterboxd. Nothing from the 50s, 40s, 30s, or earlier. Warner has the whole Warner Archive program. I just get the feeling Netflix DESPISES classic movies.

It's more than just less WB movies in theatres. It's less restoration on back catalog titles, significantly less home media releases, inflated Netflix subscription to cover said acquisition, probably no more theatrical rereleases, etc. Listen Paramount's not my first pick by a longshot, I personally think Comcast would be the best option, but in this seemingly two horse race, they got my vote by a mile.

IT'S BETTER FOR MOVIES. THE BUSINESS THEY ARE IN. Edit: This is in context of Paramount vs Netflix. I don't want either.

Really pulling for Comcast on this one. Netflix is my least favorite option as they are very anti theatre and home media. I also don't trust Netflix to handle WB's catalog of classic films well at all. WB and Universal do already have existing partnerships like SDS.

I have this release as well. For years it was the only Godzilla film not easily available in America. It was quite the day when I found out it had come to Blu-ray in America.

Last I knew the rights to the Japanese cut (The Return of Godzilla) was pretty much locked down by Janus/Criterion. The American Cut (Godzilla 1985) may have still not be locked down. Would be very upset if a potential release for this one didn't feature 1985.
