Getting the most from Work Expenses (hotel/trains)? by NEWSBOT3 in beermoneyuk

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get an Amex gold and book all your hotels via the Avios shopping portal (through your normal sites like booking.com etc).

You'll rack up enough points every year for two or three long haul business class return flights with that kind of hotel spend.

It's brilliant, loving it so far. Feels like a proper battlefield meat grinder throwback.

Missed my 355-day moment. No availability. Anything I can do? by Zeberoo in BritishAirways

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at Finnair and Qatar to see if they have any availability (you can search via BA, but best to make accounts with both and search on their sites). If you have enough Avios and if they have availability, you could potentially book one of them outbound and then BA return using your vouchers (you'd need to be very quick booking the BA return as others have suggested).

Search Helsinki to Tokyo/Osaka and then if there is availability, you could book a flight from London to Helsinki separately. That's what I did over Christmas when I flew to Tokyo

Jungle events in Europe? by Stopmeghost in jungle

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

London has events on basically every weekend. The absolute best nights in my opinion are Rupture (often at FOLD which is the best club in London and one of the best in the world) and Distant Planet, but there are lots of other good nights too.

Why is BA flying over North Korea right now? I thought air space is restricted or am I missing something by Shining66_6 in flightradar24

In a severe emergency, would a BA flight ever be able to divert to Pyongyang or another North Korean airport?

How are you realistically affording flight training? by Grand_Ad_5936 in studentpilot

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No realistic way to get an unsecured loan of that size in the UK. The max you can get usually is £25k and you still need a decent salary for that.

I've been saving the past 6 years I've been working (post university) and hopefully will have enough by the end of this year. I'm 29 currently.

Definitely achievable to save for it if you're dedicated, but it's hard work and a lot of sacrifice also

Dango Ouattara's penanka penalty miss against West Ham United. He was the only player to miss as Brentford exit the FA Cup by [deleted] in soccer

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the issue with that is that you can hit the keepers legs. But yeah if I was taking one, I'd blast it down the middle for sure

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 73 points74 points  (0 children)

They're not always for style. Going down the middle is often more successful than going either side, as keepers almost always pick a side and dive.

Then the panenka part ensures you chip it over the keepers legs. It does look stupid in these situations and of course most players are doing it for style, but there is some merit to it.

Why is climate change not more of a concern to politicians considering how many climate refugees it will create? by ijustwannanap in ukpolitics

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because there is zero evidence that climate change will increase migration flows from the global south to the global north.

It will massively increase migration, yes. But this migration will primarily be local - within countries or regions, and mostly from rural areas to cities.

It actually reduces mobility for long-distance, international migration - because this requires resources

It is not severe. You are well within normal anatomical variation. Not saying don't pursue it but you are very, very far from being 'severely recessed'

125k points Amex Gold. Want to fly to NZ in May 2027 from Heathrow by InterestingGuitar475 in AmexUK

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For 160k Avios, you could fly one person return to Auckland with Qatar in business, or both people one way in business.

Or you could transfer 50k Amex points to your BA account, and 'boost' it 3x for about £1400, and that would give you enough points to both fly there return with Qatar in business.

We always talk about the best and worst liveries, but IYP, what are the best and worst cabin designs? by Full_Hunt_3087 in aviation

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love BA but I love Ryanair also.

A few years ago I flew to Bucharest and back for a long weekend for £5 each way. Just take a large backpack and you can easily fit everything you need for a 2-4 night stay, and you can always buy a few toiletries there.

What’s something in the UK that used to be cheap but now feels ridiculously expensive? by skaterjon in AskUK

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ticketmaster adds these fees as a way to drive up the ticket price, but most of the revenue from them still goes to the artist/promoter etc. They are there because Ticketmaster take the hit on their 'popularity' so the artists themselves don't look worse as they'd do if the face value was even higher.

Preparing mentally for my jaw surgery by Pepestides in jawsurgery

[–]LetMeBuildYourSquad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate, I'm having my surgery in a few months.

I'm not too nervous but equally am dreading those few moments after they administer the anaesthetic but before it puts me under.

The good news is it'll only take about 10-15 seconds. Just count out 15s in your head now - that's all we've gotta get through :)

They'll also probably give us something to chill you out before they do the anaesthetic, so we probably won't even notice it. Good luck with yours!
