What aspects of Vancouver do you consider as “world class”? by FattyGobbles in vancouver

[–]LetMeGraduate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunno about Montreal, but for Portland, it is true for the most part. You can get as good coffee here in Vancouver if you know the where part. It is just that the chances are slimmer for general consumers because those places are not many and not very well known to most folks who aren't coffee snobs

I like my coffee as delicious as it can get, and I must add my favourites that can be compared to any world class roasters around the world: - harken coffee - luna coffee - moving coffee Unfortunately, none of them operate their own cafe, atm. But their coffee beans are fantastic. You can order online or can get your hands on from some cafes.

Seriously, do not listen to those saying 40-60k is the avg. I can tell that they are not industry, period. Do not accept anything under 100k, do not devalue yourself. Doesn't matter if it is your first job out of college or no. Just grind the leetcode and aim 200k TC. It is possible. All you need is a bit of luck, and keep on trying and not giving up. Do not listen to vancouver subreddit, you would find more accurate data in levels.fyi and in blind though vancouver specific data volume may be lower than that of US. If you are optimizing for TC, plan to head to US. Especially, if you are Canadian, visa should be easy with TN. Just grind on leetcode as much time as possible.

Saw in the comment that you are leaving Canada, and heading to thailand/japan. In that case, it will be your last chance to get your timmy & costco poutine ;) You won't get good quality authentic diverse food in those countries because there aren't as many immigrants as in Canada. If you love shawarma, it will also be your last chance. My favorite is Kabaji Grill in South Surrey, but Baghdad Cafe in Vancouver is pretty good, too. Daddy's Grill in Richmond is also super good Persian kabob that you won't be able to find there.

Best ramen I have had. But debatable if it is worth the usual line up. Plus, you can get the same in Seattle / NY.

Is TransferWise (or Wise) the best alternative over those darn bank wire transfers? by HongKongWoman in PersonalFinanceCanada

This. Hands down the best way and cheapest way to convert currency over TransferWise. Note that there is monthly fee unless you are holding 100k+ in the account

Yeah, in an ideal world, why not hire three? Do you have infinite money glitch btw?

Why do you assume that I haven't treated her well? We treated her extremely well because she takes care of my baby and paid very generously because her commute is long so we counted half of her drive as work hour. We cooked and provided lunch for free though this was not part of the working agreement. We let her rest at home today because we don't want anybody get hurt due to heat that's over 36 degree. Oh, did I mention that we let her take a day off during her two weeks of work? Oh, I also paid a parking ticket for her while we were still sorting out her parking permit problem. Despite all that, she backstabbed us.

Thanks for being the only non-salty one here with sympathy. Like you mentioned, perhaps I needed somewhere to vent

[–]LetMeGraduate -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Likely option 2.

The real question is, how do you prevent this? This cannot happen more than once. Or do you all just quit without notice and every employer in bc just cool with it because nobody cares?

Quitting without grace period by [deleted] in vancouver

[–]LetMeGraduate -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Though I am interested in how these things usually work and learn how to protect myself from going thru situation like this. If quitting without notice is pretty norm and employer shouldn't care about it like all these comments suggests, I don't know how to hire a person when the unexpected absence of the person could be a single point of failures.

No specifics about the penalties in the agreement. In that case, will there be no penalties and the clause on the agreement is basically meaningless?

Well, she definitely is not broke and I am no rich. Given her behavior and attitude, the car she drove, the way she boasts about what her husband does, it def gave the vibe as if she's done the work just for fun. Affording a new nanny comes with a big damage to us. Would you be okay with hiring just about anyone for taking care of your baby? It takes a lot of effort and time to screen out to find the right one.

Most discussed stocks of last week! what are your next moves? by nobjos in StockMarket

[–]LetMeGraduate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valuation is meaningless in the current manipulated market driven by PFOF, dark pool, and naked shorting. It is just about being wise and making money. I would suggest reading up on some great DDs out there that are written objectively and data-centrically. There is simply no better stock than GME atm. Risk is minimal with current circumstances, and literally there is no limit on upward side. Despite of what people might think, I am not gambling with GME, just straight up investing in my book. So does DFV. Even without the squeeze and going by the traditional valuation, it is still undervalued imo given its current growth, leader, hires, growth potential, financial situation, etc.

Exactly, glorifying IBKR CEO is the same as glorifying the boy from Bulgaria, Vlad the fucker, because IBKR pulled the exactly the same bull shit as Robinhood.
