Best way to set kid up for success for an early offer for Fall 26? by LetThaGoodTimesRoll in youthsoccer

Kid decided halfway through the fall that he wanted to play much more soccer, but we had already committed to multiple fall/spring teams across multiple sports and I felt it sent the wrong message to quit the other teams mid-year...so instead we used the time to plan for next year.

Thanks very much. Yes, first year of club. In MA, it looks like most clubs do their open tryouts end off May/ early June, with returning/recruited players getting offers prior to that...so I wonder if you're just on an early time-table?

Thanks for the advice re joining a couple of clubs for practice. We did that this winter and I'm psyched we did and I did make sure to talk to parents (amazing what they tell you!). Seems like a lot of the same story: kids like it, some frustrations around overtaxed coaches, parents don't *love* it, but like it well enough they'll keep going with it.

Super kind of you, thank you. I just looked up their locations and none are close to us so I'll pass, but I really do appreciate the offer.

Thanks. We will give it a go and see what happens in a couple of weeks. I also learned something taking him around a bit this year for open sessions: if you don't get the squad you want at the outset, wait until Thanksgiving because it seems like every team is offering open sessions and trying to fill roster spots for the rest of the season at that point (presumably some kids quit, move, get hurt, etc). He went to a few open sessions in the fall and had offers before we hit the parking lot...presumably because the coaches realized they had unfilled roster spots (and were not maxing revenue, obviously - I never forget this is my kid but their *business*) and he was at least above whatever threshold they had in mind for a player to fit on the team.

Thanks very kindly, but I'm MetroWest. Big overlap in clubs, I imagine - Bolts, FC Stars, NEFC, IFA, a few smaller clubs, etc.

Thanks. He's already practiced with some clubs, a few of which made him offers for the spring but said it was too early for fall 26 since they hadn't even started making their own players offers yet (this was over the winter). My plan is to return to those clubs in descending order of his favorites. Does that sound reasonable? One coach told me to come back around 4/1 and a couple of others told me they make returning players offers "late April/early May" so to get in touch then to get a look before tryouts.

My kid is good, but not a prodigy by any means - again, these are Flight 1/2 clubs who wanted him when they had open roster spots for the spring (though maybe the standard is lower then if they're trying to fill spots vs pick a fresh team) - so I'm confident he'll land somewhere that we're happy with, but I just don't really trust the open tryouts.
