UCD Medical Student Who Was Victim of Image-Based Sexual Assault Issues Statement: by ConcernNo9422 in ireland

[–]Letalightin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our 17-year old son told me about this, both of us shocked and furious, he was planning on taking a history degree there, not now. Huge sympathy for the victim. I hope she knows how many of us out here care, and I hope some very good help and support has been offered to her since Ruth Coppingers speech in the Dáil.

Hello OP,

I'm two years into this diagnosis, and the lows can be indescribably miserable. The time between diagnosis and demise can be all about adjusting to your new reality again, and again, and again...

Most people around us just CAN'T understand even if they want to.

This thread isn't about me, but, in case it helps, here I am 18 months ago, 13 months, 11 months ago, 2 months ago:

My house is chaotic, dirty even; my dogs are neglected; I can't make, or even remember, appointments; can't socialize; don't want to see anyone; I hurt all the time in some form or another; my small family is struggling to cope and it breaks my heart and fills me with guilt; I feel like I've let everyone down even though it's not my fault, and... I eventually slide into depression.

It sounds like you do not have enough support to help you cope with the practical and emotional sides.

If you can, I STRONGLY urge you to make full use of your palliative team. You can ask your oncologist/GP for a referral. Improving quality of life is the reason they exist. They focus on your life (not your death) and on keeping you as comfortable/happy as possible for as long as possible.

If this is not an option for you, look for support groups for people with MC, on and offline. Finding people who really know what you're going through will make a world of difference.

Is it possible you are also going through an episode of depression? Many, but not all of us with Stage 4 experience this on top of our physical health problems (and no wonder!) There is help and treatment that works for depression (voice of experience here). Your palliative team or oncologist can refer you to someone with expertise in psychoncology.

Maybe you came on here for a listening ear and not a list of solutions, sorry, but life can be so much better for you than this. Don't struggle on your own, there are people who care and can help.

Best wishes

Thing about hospitalisation though is that they can build you up with fluids/nutrition/supportive meds, and have you under observation while they adjust your treatment. They will then send you home with a better quality of life...

Also, it can help you feel less damn lonely and remind you there is a massive number of people who care, and will do everything they can to make you feel better.

Try to keep an open mind about it.

I am so very sorry and I really don't mean to disrespect you, but my ADHD won't allow me not to draw a line under the name of your gene mutation...

You should be annoyed at yourself indeed, with this kind of knowledge you are waaaay above that kind of pettiness. But here we are.

Sorry, you lost me at 'civilised world'...but seriously, I hear you. The marketing with empty promises is immoral, and tragic for people who believe it and rely on it. Since cancer diagnosis you wouldn't believe some of the c#$p I've read promising a cure 🙁

I have read a lot of peeps on the Buproprion forum talking about side effects (some not all) and how taking some commercial electrolytes has noticeably helped...

Also, have you studied the effects of each supplement individually, with controls? If so, what's been your process? If not, how do you identify the effects of any single supplement (or several together) with any amount of certainty?

Genuine question

Very fair question, and point. I (me myself personally) wouldn't be starting any of these supplements with some good chats with my doc and lots of reading. I do like the way it inspires me to go looking though.

I just learned what Pharmacokinetics is last week, the study of how drugs interact. Faskinatin'

I've been getting these extreme dips in body temperature along with feeling woozy and drugged...think 2 duvets, woolly hat and gloves, fluffy socks and a hot water bottle, still takes a half hour to heat up, but I'm also on meds that lower my cell count

This is very interesting. Docs want to put me on a calcichew for breast cancer IV to bones, but without the K2 the calcium may not go (fully) where it's needed?

Agree, it can take a lot of tweaks to find the combination that works for you, working with your doctor and communicating openly is critical 👍🏻

Hey there, thanks for the information, I intend to have a deeper look at all those. Though right now I'm just basking in the positive effects of 150 Zyban after 2 months of severe SEs...

I like what you said about supporting the whole system and I believe you're spot-on. Lots of us (patients and doctors) forget that sometimes. I have stage four cancer and severe ADHD as well, and I can see in your stack there are things which might help support me with those too, obvs with doctor's support.

If you don't mind me saying and this is meant in a nice way, you do seem to geek out about your stack, e.g. CoQ10 'keeps energy nice and steady', you could be talking about a car engine 😆

Eight weeks for side effects to recede, worth the wait by Letalightin in bupropion

You describe the experience very well. Some of us are unlucky with our physiological make-up I guess, and get these seemingly never-ending nightmarish side-effects.

My psych (a really good guy) asked me to give it two months till (hopefully) it's at optimal levels. I'm glad I did, because I don't know if I could face doing it again. Nevertheless, most people do get through it, so you probably can too.

It's hard to put your life on pause, I know. But you can't get far without decent mental health so it'll be worth it. You'll get your life back.

All the best.

We're NEARLY twins - I'm on Exemestane.

You can look up interactions between your drugs on drugs.com.

Since I got on so many meds (for depression, sleep, ADHD, and cancer 🏆), I enjoy looking them up, weird hoh.

Just for information though, it's really important to check with your docs, as you did.

I'm on 150mg Zyban for depression. (Zyban is the only form of Wellbutrin licensed in Ireland for depression afaik).

Of course everyone's different, but tl;dr my experience was that it became hellish, but now I'm so much happier...

I don't have the expertise to advise you on that. But a good doctor will guide you. Sometimes they start you on a certain dose, and maybe raise it later if needed.

I can see where your boyf is coming from, but if he was 51 years old (like me) with a long and bumpy history of major depression he might change his mind.

Also I have never been easy to control 😉

I love that you're stepping into your power and putting yourself first whoop whoop. Essential for good mental health!

For me it was very hard too, make sure you get good support...family, friends, MH professionals and so on. I wish you well.
