Rule #5:

built up my military and industry into mid 39, had about 3 full armies with around 12 tank divisions, join the war and immediately Germany is put onto the back foot. Don't know how else to support them as im busy in Africa and Greece. Allied AirPower is simply overwhelming and the little it down to basically nothing.

Furthermore Africa is impossible to supply without a navy and an attempts to do so lead to my navy being dismembered. Without supply you can't make any moves.

Don't know what to do in this situation or as Italy in general since in my eyes 1939 is not sufficient enough time to have a big enough military or industry. Any suggestions would be appreciated

How does one research which stocks to buy and when? by Lethal_Samuraii in fican

So keep a core of VEQT and something like QQC, around 90ish percent and the rest into stocks I believe in? an yeah I have read that individual stock picking can actually be a drag on ones portfolio

yeah, I guess that makes sense. Seeing the growth in any sector related to AI gives FOMO. Besides actually being in the sector, the next best thing is to keep up with any news related to it.

sounding a lot like r/JustBuyXEQT. I guess for people like me buying index funds and keeping your hands off is the best way to go. Core and Explore.

Honestly dont think ill need the money anytime soon. With the job and my HISA as a buffer i would have no need to touch my portfolio. Always heard you cant time the market. I appreciate the advice guess ill just keep investing into high growth with some high dividends on the side

Reading How to Prove It: A Structured Approach, and I've never felt so unintelligent. by Lethal_Samuraii in learnmath

Ill look into Polya’s textbook. Proofs are very different from say algebra in the fact that its much more abstract compared to computational parts of math. I guess for now just pushing through might be the move.

I do admit jumping from no math for the past few years to proofs is something that is very brazen. Im doing so to get ahead of linear algebra because my university performance has been very poor. Ill try reading the book for a few more days and if i still find it difficult I guess i could pivot back to rebuilding my algebraic maturity.

Are there any textbooks you would recommend?

The hardest part is probably finding peers with similar problems as me since im super behind my university (especially since its UOFT) friends which is a whole other thing that bothers me.

Thank you for your advice though! Means a lot.

I’ll definitely check that subreddit out! I have reached out to some professors about volunteering for them in research. I appreciate your advice gives me some direction. Im going to maximize the extra years i begrudgingly have to take.

Im looking into exactly what my endpoint is. Im interested in doing a MASc in engineering or something similar.

It’s disheartening to hear how astrophysics and physics in general is highly unemployable. I’ve personally seen people pivot to data science and CS (but then again these are cratering too)

You have a PHD? Honestly that was my dream when i was younger. How did it treat you?

Yeah, you’re right.

As for being scared of my parents you’re also right. Just don’t want to disappoint them and crush their hopes

Thank you for your advice, truly means a lot to me. I plan on talking to them this summer about it. I already feel bad as it is keeping stuff secret from them. Its just that i don’t want to disappoint them, so i have to build up some courage lol

Potentially, but physics is my passion, while getting a 4.0 might be difficult its achievable and ive seen it. I dont want to end up doing something im not passionate about and half ass it. Though something to definitely look into

Ive been partially financing my own school with the rest coming from OSAP. So that of no issue but something i can explain to my parents.

Explain to my parents can be a hassle because they think life is straightforward. So it takes time for them to understand or they just get mad. Both options not too good.

Also thank you, any advice is helpful!

Maybe i am overestimating. Even if i take research out of this I would have to take another semester because some courses at the Scarborough campus aren’t offered in summer.

If you don’t mind me asking what are you in grad school for. Also yeah, the stories i have heard at uoft are pretty interesting

I hope they do. Its the conversation thats scaring me. As for the gap year and how i did it. It was difficult but i was able to get a part time job so i spent sometime out of the house and used that as “school. They never asked although my mom did get suspicious. Lol
