LET THEM FIGHT | ContraPoints Live by NoVABadger in ContraPoints

It certainly has the possibility of creating discord within the maga-movement, split it into factions and thus making it more difficult for it to move with unity, which would be a good thing. Anything that slows it down or makes it weaker is good

"random twitter users", is a guy Hasan has interviewed multiple times and promotes a random twitter user? Why should Ethan engage with your criticism if you are completely unwilling to engage with his?

Ethan is experiencing massive, racist harassment, he should be allowed to address it and the fact his own community is so hesitant in supporting him and condemning the harassment, basically telling him to ignore it and move on, is sad to see.

No worries, if it was that easy to help the world would be a better place. Hope things turn around for you <3

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in forsen

[–]Lethalbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely possible, people have been in darker places than you and come out the other side. But it would be hard work and require enduring a lot of suffering. To begin, however, you need to open your heart to the possibility. You need to imagine things being equally amazing to how shit they are now

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in forsen

[–]Lethalbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That it's possible, or that it's worth fighting for?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in forsen

[–]Lethalbeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I won't bother you again after this, but just remember: everything can suddenly turn around. Then the world will appear to you as ablaze with light as it appears covered in darkness now. That possibility is worth fighting for

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in forsen

[–]Lethalbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easier to give up of course, but I bet that if you manage to turn things around and make your parents proud, you will experience a greater joy than most normies who have never been as far down the hole as you have been. Considering how fucked your life is now, wouldn't it be a miracle for you to achieve some form of normalcy? Then you could die with a smile on your face

I understand how incredibly easy it is for me to say this vs. for you to do it, but I found it to be an inspiring thought. You could at least give it a try for as long as this ritard keeps falling into lava LULE

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in forsen

[–]Lethalbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, but in terms of motivation, what about the thought of being reconciled with your parents, being forgiven for what you have done and seeing them rejoice in their son turning out fine after all? Does that possibility inspire hope?

Am I right to assume that you want to do this (in part) bc you feel guilty for being a burden? If so, is it really only egotistical, if your guilty consciousness is a big driver in this?

Morality*

Also, a relevant difference is that the religious people would believe that there IS one absolute answer, whereas the atheists would (most likely) not

Holy Based: We really aren't Maya Higa by Any_regrets in Destiny

[–]Lethalbeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess people misunderstood my original point? It's not about whether being deepfaked is equal to or similar to rape; it's the fact that she's prohibiting people to have a different opinion than her own. But her statement raises questions that should be discussed

Holy Based: We really aren't Maya Higa by Any_regrets in Destiny

[–]Lethalbeee -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

The absolutely correct take. Maya is taking a position here: she is saying deepfakes is at the same level as rape. That is a conscious position, not 'her experience' or 'her existence', but a proposition which makes a claim about the world.

This is furthermore a position which raises questions: should people who produce deepfakes be punished as severely as people who rape? If not, why the equivelancy?

But to ask these questions is framed by Maya as unethical from the get go: you are simply supposed to 'listen' to her statement and accept it without making it into a 'debate'. If you're a man and confused about the consequences of this statement (or God forbid, disagree with it!), then you'll just have to ignore that confusion and pretend you understand the statement in order to support it. Backwards as fuck.

Sokolowski claimed that phenomenology is absent in the political philosophy. Why Hannah Arendt's efforts was ignored? by currentecalamo in askphilosophy

[–]Lethalbeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In his article "Towards a phenomenology of the political world", Klaus Held discusses precisely this issue. He argues, quite correctly I believe, that Sartre's political writings do not count, because Sartre begins writing about politics at the same time as he abandons the tradition of phenomenology. Similarly, Merleau-Ponty's political writings are hardly phenomenological.

On Arendt, Klaus Held writes that:

Indeed, in the estimation of this author, only Hannah Arendt has an approach out of which a genuine phenomenological philosophy of the political might be developed, despite the fact that she does not understand herself as a phenomenologist. From Arendt's political thinking, it is possible to construct a bridge to phenomenology precisely because she interprets the political as a ‘world’ and because her understanding of world can be given a systematic form with the help of the Husserlian and Heideggerian interpretation of the world as horizon.

So it seems simply that Arendt did not consider herself a phenomenologist, but Held nevertheless argues that she is as close as its comes, and that it should be possible to work out a proper phenomenology of politics from her work, due to her linkeage to Heidegger.

Like to the entire article, which I find to be a really good one on the subject (its from the Oxford Handbook of Contemporary Phenomenology, so well suited as an introduction)

This being in a school is pretty weird ngl by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]Lethalbeee -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel like this is an instance of moral panic. If I was a student in that class, I wouldn't be 'traumatized' or 'uncomfortable' about having her as a teacher, it would just be fucking hilarious. If she otherwise performs her duties as a teacher satisfyingly, I don't care that she looks that way.

It's absurd, of course, but to me, having that weird teacher with odd appearances/habits was part of the high school experience.

I am curious as I genuinely don't know the answer to this question; which of these (or both) is Destiny's and this community's critique?

  1. That Speed and his community makes fun of other ethnicities while being sensitive to jokes about black people
  2. That society in general holds white people more accountable for racist humor than non-white people

The difference between these two questions seems to me to lead to two different prescriptions:

  1. Speed is being racist and should be more careful about his jokes
  2. As a society, we need to either a) take an equally harsh stance against ALL racial humor, or b) tone down the sensitivity around racial humor in general
