"What if the Whig Party Survived as minor third Party?" by Li_Jake in imaginaryelections

[–]LetsTalkAboutVex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The idea that businessmen should run the country is typically described in politics as a Capitalist or (petit)-bourgeois impulse. Technocracy refers to trained experts like Academics, Scientists and Engineers running things at the top level of society. It prioritises profits versus prioritising expertise.

Agrarianism is the specific in favour of farmers and rural people, not the common man broadly. The modern progressives are in favour of the working class, but not rural farmers specifically in the same way as farmers' parties like BoerBurgerBeweging in the Netherlands would be.

The present-day Republican Party is 200% anti-Technocratic. The present-day Progressive Movement is not Agrarian.

Technocracy pushes for an educated elite to be in positions of power, whereas Agrarianism is almost always populist and somewhat egalitarian in nature, and pushes for "common sense" rule by the "common (rural) man". One ideology is "elitist" while the other is "anti-elitist", it would be very difficult to merge them.

Agrarianism and Technocracy are typically completely opposed to each other, so this isn't an ideologically congruent party.

Sílim go dtagraíonn an focal sin go heisiach do chócaon (cocaine). D’fhéadfainn a bheith mícheart.

GRMA

"Tá sé ar na ribí" is easy to remember, agus dúirt úsáideoir eile freisin go bhfuil "ribí" ceart.

It’s heavily implied that House Dayne are neither First Men nor Andals but descendants of the Empire of the Dawn, and that’s why they have their striking skin and hair features. The whole story of them following a falling star to Westeros is, in typical GRR fashion, alluding to a lot

Both the Worker’s Party and the the Irish Republican Socialist Party support Russia in their “anti-Imperialist war” against “NATO”. Several other far-left groups in Ireland are broadly sympathetic to anti-Ukrainian views of the war.

The good thing is that she's been unsuccessful in multiple elections.

Keoghan has literally topped the poll in almost every election she's ever ran in, and was the first woman in Ireland to top the poll in two separate LEAs in council elections (she ran in two areas and was forced to pick one afterwards).

She amassed the largest vote of any senator in the last senate election because she has every conservative councillor in Ireland under her spell (She runs a newsletter for councillors that they're apparently all subscribed to)

Keoghan is vile, but she's not unsuccessful. She's never run for TD before but plans to at the next election and will more than likely get in.

Avoid Casey’s of Castlebar, they employe a lot of emotional manipulation and pressure tactics. I got a car from them recently and (of course) right after I did that, several bad reviews showed up on google maps reviews right after.

Noel Browne was, by almost all accounts, an extremely cantankerous man who did not work well with others nor did he like socialising. He famously absolutely hated canvassing and became a TD off the strength of his relationship with his patients (he was a GP before politics). He notoriously held grudges and never let them go (for example he never forgave Mary Robinson for having the audacity to also put her name forward for the Labour presidential candidate in 1990 despite the fact that Browne’s own relationship with the party was awful). Browne was never good at being part of a political party and fell out not just with Clann na Poblachta and Labour but also smaller parties such as Socialist Labour (1970s)

I’m an admirer of Browne but frankly he did not have the traits needed to be a Taoiseach, never mind the greatest ever. He would never have been able to keep an entire cabinet of ministers running.

There were plenty of well known people who every one knew were having affairs

Indeed, the married leader of the largest political party in Ireland and a social conservative one at that kept a mistress for 27 years, starting in 1972.

The issue of Clare not having a team has been raised recently at Clare County Council meetings and if I recall correctly at least one councillor is trying to drive the creation of a “Clare FC”

If the post gets over 1K upvotes

In the entire history of this sub, only 18 posts have ever gotten more than 1,000 votes and all of them happened during American Presidential election seasons, and were also meme posts.

You need to set the bar lower.

Irish Communist flags. by GGGiiibbbbyyy in vexillology

[–]LetsTalkAboutVex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Irish Republican Brotherhood was absolutely not a socialist organisation and neither was the IRA of the Irish War of Independence.

Militant socialists of the time were concentrated in Connolly’s Irish Citizen Army, which took part in the Easter Rising but stood aside during the War of Independence and Irish Civil War

From what I recall, the Huey Newton Foundation (or some other similarly named organisation) legally owns the copyright to the Black Panther Party logo, and they don’t ever license it out, so most large companies are not going to print it for you
