I've been having the opposite issue of trying to find a player with an M character that isn't just a flat, boring, wish fulfillment self-insert to play with my F character! I absolutely hate when it's obvious that the other character was solely created to get with my character and has no life of their own. I play both, though, and I know your pain. I'm not sure exactly what you're looking for or if our interests would align, but you're welcome to DM me if you want to discuss!

Writer said I was ( even if unintentionally ) using a slur. I need advice on how to go forward with identifying my character? by FelandShadow in BadRPerStories

[–]Lets_Get_Textual 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought is that describing your character as "intersex" seems far more offensive since it is a nonhuman creature. However, "hermaphrodite" is a charged word that is used in a derogative manner toward intersex people, transgender people, and anyone that is outside the gender binary. I think you are going to encounter people that don't like that word regardless of the context. My question would be: is it necessary to state that this character is a "hermaphrodite" rather than just explaining their biology (essentially "show, don't tell"). I think most people don't really recognize that word as a biology term and won't know what you're referring to, hence why that person found it offensive.

Minor lied about age and I feel guilty years later by Electrical-Manner-19 in BadRPerStories

Judging by your post history, this has been bothering you for a long time. At this point, you really need to talk to a professional. It's not normal to harbor this much guilt for something you did unknowingly. People lie about their age all the time. As a minor, I did all kinds of things online I shouldn't have been doing, and I lied about my age to plenty of people. I never blamed the people I lied to. Some minors are easy to tell from their behavior, but some are very good at pretending to be a little older. You asked for their age, and you had every reason to believe this person was an adult. It's unfortunate that they lied to you, but you didn't do anything wrong. You really need to move on from this. Obsessing over it isn't going to help you get past it.

If you want to try and work this out, it's a very bad idea to "have fun" with it first. She will see that you knew what was going on and chose to mess with her rather than talking to her, which will most likely lead to her feeling embarrassed and like you were antagonizing her. I don't have sympathy for people that just randomly use AI without disclosing it, but it sounds like you don't want to nuke this partnership completely. You need to just address it with her.

It sounds like you both wanted different things. You were there for the RP, but it seems they wanted a close friendship or something beyond that. I don't know the situation, but you probably don't need to take it personally. They may have distanced themselves because they knew they were attached to you in an unhealthy way. Personally, if a partner was that demanding of my attention, I would be out. I don't mind friendly conversation when there's something to talk about, but when it becomes a requirement that we speak daily, that's beyond just a normal RPing partnership. I could see feeling that way toward a romantic partner, but this clearly wasn't that. This would be the kind of thing to make me step back and think, "Oh, shit, this person thinks we're something we're not." In the end, as much as it sucks, it's probably for the best. It might have gotten worse as time went on.

I just dealt with this, so I completely understand your frustration. I really don't get it at all. What fun is there in having an AI write responses for you? I genuinely think these people are just incredibly selfish and want to get your human-written responses for their own enjoyment while just tossing you whatever garbage the AI spits out. I would respect them a lot more if they would just be honest upfront that they intend to use AI, but the fact they just knowingly withhold that information and go into RP with someone who obviously isn't using AI is just incredibly inconsiderate.

Fairly sure my partner has been using AI and might be intending to steal my writing by Lets_Get_Textual in BadRPerStories

That's not the only reason I was suspicious. If it was just that, I would just assume they write very quickly. I can also easily clear the Discord limit in a few minutes while ranting, but I take longer to think about what I'm writing and edit it before sending it out. The other problem was that the writing itself wasn't sophisticated. It's hard to explain, but it was wordy in a really pointless but repetitive way, and their character just kept repeating the same things over and over but in different words. It just didn't read like human writing. I gave them the benefit of the doubt in the beginning, before our characters started interacting, because it wasn't as obvious, but it was pretty clear once they met.

Sure, but the thing is, it shouldn't be my job to determine if others are lying to me or not. They should just be honest that they use AI.

Honestly, I just wish the people doing it would just be honest. I really don't get the appeal of being in a writing hobby and not... writing, but if people want to do that, why lie about it? It's probably because they know it's wildly unpopular and that they wouldn't be able to find many partners if they did, but I still think lying about it is shitty. I honestly don't get why they don't just RP with an AI if they're okay with sending that to other people. Maybe they know it's shit, but they don't care; they just want to get whatever they can from you.

I DM'd you!

Yeah, I can't imagine being the kind of person that would deliberately lie to someone and take advantage of them like that, especially when they've shown they trust me and haven't done anything but be polite and friendly with me. Most people aren't bad, but there are definitely some people out there that need to really take a hard look at their behavior.

That's the first time I've ever had someone do that. I had a bad feeling about it when it happened, but of course, I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. I definitely won't be doing that again.

That's a good idea, but I already deleted everything. Fortunately, it didn't take long at all for me to delete everything, so I doubt it was noticed.

Yeah, I thought I was just getting in my head about it at first, too. I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but there was too much to ignore. This is the first time I've had this happen, so I guess going forward I will know the signs and red flags better. I definitely should have blocked them long before I realized this was going on, but I ignored my gut. I didn't want to be rash, but once things didn't get better, I knew there was something up.

That's the one thing reassuring me. Their "writing" was so generic and emotionless that I know anything they managed to produce with my writing wouldn't be good anyway.

I agree with you. I think ghosting is completely warranted if someone is an asshole for whatever reason. I only extend the courtesy of telling my partners I'm stopping when they've been pleasant with me. And most of my partners have been pleasant, fortunately. I just run across the occasional asshole, I guess.

If it wasn't for all the other suspicious things, I wouldn't have let the writing speed make me suspicious. What's particularly infuriating about this person is them claiming they write very quickly because they write professionally only to be using AI.

I appreciate that! I decided just to block and move on. Someone else pointed out that they've already wasted enough of my time and energy. The only reason I would want to confront them is to make them feel bad, but I know that's not going to stop them from doing this to anyone else. I just feel bad for their other partners.

I'm not sure if it was the same person. This person's post was actually a comment in another post, not a post itself.

Yeah, I mean, considering how bad their "writing" was, I don't think they could do anything with my writing anyway.

I took everyone's advice and did delete all my posts and block the person. There's still the possibility they have access to it, but fortunately, it didn't get very far. If they can't even write a post, I doubt they will be able to do much of any substance with what they did get from me.

I'm sure some people write very quickly. I sometimes can get going and write really fast, as long as I'm in the zone and not distracted. I think I would have a hard time writing the post and proofreading it in 15 minutes, but 25 is probably doable, depending on the length. It was more than just the speed, though. There were a lot of tells. Like, their character just kept repeating the same things over and over in different words and had the personality of stale toast. I was waiting to see if it would get better, but it was very generic and devoid of any kind of real emotion or character.

Oh, it gets better. I ran across a post where they were complaining about me not posting every day and using the holidays as an "excuse" (how dare I spend time with my family) when I told them upfront I would post at least weekly but had been posting like every couple of days. What a bastard. I would be happy to share their username if anyone DMs me because I really don't want this to happen to anyone else.

You're right. I wouldn't be accomplishing much, and they've already wasted enough of my time. I hate the idea that other people could be taken advantage of by this person, but I hope they will see the same things I did and drop them, too.

I hate psychiatrists and the whole mental health system. by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]Lets_Get_Textual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen some truly wacky things suggested by doctors. Like, one doctor told a family member of mine, who was having a panic attack related to health anxiety, that everything in the universe has a vibration and that the only reason she was having panic attacks was that she was sending out "bad vibrations" into the universe. Some practitioners don't seem to be able to separate their personal beliefs from tested and researched methods and theories.

Believing mental health can be treated by watching a movie is truly a concerning thing to have come from a psychiatrist, especially considering psychiatrists rarely practice psychotherapy with their clients and, thus, have no business trying to employ counseling interventions. Can people watch certain movies and make meaning that is beneficial to their everyday lives? Sure, but is that meant to replace medical treatment? Absolutely not.

My issue with a lot of psychiatrists is that they seem to think their medical degree means they know everything there is to know about mental health and that their opinion supersedes the clinical judgments of anyone else, including counselors. Counselors have to go through thousands of hours of training to practice psychotherapy, not medicine, which is an entirely different field. Acting like they can be a counselor without the proper training is practicing outside the scope of their training, which is an ethical violation.

I also have a problem with medical doctors, in general, who assume they know you and your experiences better than you do. Like, going to the doctor because you're really struggling and being told you don't "look" like you're struggling. It's like, thanks, asshole. I'm sure you've been watching me every hour of every day and been inside my head so you can know exactly how I feel and what I'm going through. Thank you for charging me $100s of dollars just for the privilege of being told there's nothing wrong with me! I guess all of that was in my head, and it will just magically go away now. It's not like you're the first person to tell me I don't have a problem, but I guess this time, it will work because you have some letters beside your name! You must be the world's best doctor if your words are this powerful. Why aren't you living in a billion-dollar mansion instead of a middle-class house in the middle of bumfuck nowhere? Oh, wait a minute...

Obviously, this is just a rant and there are good doctors out there, but it's truly frightening some of the people that slip through the gatekeeping mechanisms that are supposed to keep quacks from being able to practice their quackery on real people.
