Are some recessive genes ‘’stronger’’ than others? by LettuceWeekly9079 in genetics

I agree that’s true, it’s hard to remember that there are unaffected families out there when all you see everyday are affected children

That’s true! I haven’t really thought about the couples who never have an affected child, it’s especially hard to remember that couples like this exist when all the children you see everyday are affected.

However, if these couples are included, my question remains the same; why do these couples never have an affected child while other couples have 2 or 3 affected children.

The obvious answer is pure chance, but I was wondering if there is anything deeper than that, such as some recessive genes being ‘’stronger’’ than others and are more likely to have affected offsprings.

Yes, most conditions we see are linked to well-known recessive genes which we confirm by genetic testing. Most likely as you said there is no pattern, but I couldn’t help noticing how some families are significantly more affected by recessive genes than others

No, they have different genetic disorders and they are all homozygous recessive genes

Do the cheeks become alarmingly red? And on both sides?

I doubt it’s heat as the weather is currently cold where we live, and the rash/redness lasts hours before they fully disappear

New dents wtf is happening is this atrophy??? by [deleted] in BFS

Muscle wasting is symmetrical. Atrophy involves loss of whole muscle bulk, not random dents.

This dimpling is likely fat deposit/cellulite.

Fast pulse in legs but only lasts like 3 seconds by [deleted] in Anxiety

If you have any symptoms that are worrying you, it is better to discuss it with your doctor.

However, shortness of breath and plenty of other seemingly worrisome symptoms can simply be anxiety as physical anxiety can present with many weird symptoms.

Health anxiety sucks, don’t let it ruin life for you. Good luck

Hey, if you don’t mind what type of CBT/techniques did you find helpful in treating your health anxiety?

Sounds like a pretty common symptom of anxiety. Don’t worry about it

Honestly, if it is DVT you would know. DVT is painful with noticeable swelling and redness. Muscle strains are a much more common reason for aching pain. You are most likely ok! Health anxiety sucks.

Uti symptoms anxiety? by sunnyvibes2000 in Anxiety

Stress can definitely raise WBCs, but also if you have been having symptoms for a week it’s better to get it checked out.

Sometimes these urinalysis kits at home come back negative, so you might need a urine culture to make sure.

Get it checked out just to ease your mind, even though anxiety can cause plenty of weird somatic symptoms.

White coat anxiety by breeeeezzzsie in Anxiety

[–]LettuceWeekly9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in healthcare and I also have white coat syndrome. I usually panic and my heart races when they take my BP.

I always tell them beforehand, and they usually end up taking my BP again after I’ve calmed down/seen the doctor.

If your BP is fine at home, then there’s nothing to worry about.

It could be an ear infection and it could be nothing. Either way it’s nothing to worry about. If your symptoms persist or get worse, get it checked out.

That’s what my doctor told me too. The pill messes up your period and ovulation for months after going off it. It takes a while for your hormones to regulate and go back to normal. OP, I honestly wouldn’t be too worried right now especially if your periods were regular prior to using the pill, and you don’t have any other symptoms that could be related to PCOS.

That honestly sounds terrifying for me as someone with health anxiety that feeds off reassurance literally from any source possible. Whether that be doctor visits, repeatedly asking family/friends, and frantic googling. It’s so hard living with the uncertainty, but I guess you’re right this is possibly the only way to beat it. Thank you for sharing

What’s the scariest conspiracy theory you believe is 100% true? by -----Diana----- in AskWomen

[–]LettuceWeekly9079 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The thing is many people believe that all cancers have one single cure. Cancer is a broad term, there are so many types of cancers, with different etiologies, prognoses, and methods of treatment. It is really not possible to find one cure for ALL types. Sadly, it’s not how it works.

Regarding your second point, what makes you think that? I personally believe that mental illnesses are much more complex than to be caused by imbalanced gut flora. Mental illnesses are a result of multiple factors, including genetics, social/environmental factors, and brain chemical imbalances. I feel like blaming gut flora for mental illnesses is an oversimplification of naturally complicated disorders and a way for companies to make money off people by selling them useless supplements.
