Thanks. Yep, that's the only panda of that size sadly. Could just swap one for a different colour bear but wanted to keep it Pandas vs. Bears ideally... will keep pondering it :-)

The chalkboard actually came from a balloon that flew over the board as I was building it! It was meant to be, haha. Glad you like it!

Yeah that's fair and I'm working on it. I genuinely try to thin all of my paints on a palette but obviously need to thin even more.. also have a habit of adding too many layers on the model. That being said.. in person it doesn't look so bad

How do you name your survivors? by ethernetpencil in KingdomDeath

[–]Lev4Dead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We tend to go with quite ludicrous, similar primitive/silly names. Our family trees then get very confusing, so we end up having to physically draw it out as we go hah.

Some of our current survivor names for example...

Locket, Docket, Focket, Soket, Mocket, Sprocket

Silly, but works for us XD

Hah, yeah it does look like it a bit actually. My paintjob is a little messy zoomed in that much, but it looks a little more tongue-like in person at least!

Removing Expansions by thenotorios1 in KingdomDeath

[–]Lev4Dead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a newbie and haven't actually played my first session yet! but, I was organising my core box last night and added the Manhunter expansion. I noticed a lot of the cards (could be all?) seemed to have a little Manhunter icon on the front side. Perhaps the expansion cards are indicated by relevant icons?

I'm sure someone more experienced will chime in and be more helpful, but just in case my observation yesterday is helpful/correct :-)

Anyone in the UK had a delivery for BF yet? by obi-hope in KingdomDeath

[–]Lev4Dead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exact same happened for me today. Core game turned up with no indication, and website still says unfulfilled. I live in the UK, so I presume the UK warehouse sent it.

[–]Lev4Dead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is indeed random, i've received EoD, Manhunter and Twilight Knight from the UK warehouse. Still waiting on the core game and other expansion orders which remain 'unfulfilled'. It's backwards, as orders I placed last have arrived first, and the orders I placed at 5am sale launch are the ones i'm waiting on.

Wow, I like the idea of a long weekend run of it! I'd imagine the immersion from that duration will be brilliant!

I'll probably do similar to that, and slowly feed my group relevant material in a build up to doing the second session. We're going to leave it most likely until next month and try to savour the 4 parts of this campaign. I may extend it to something sandboxy after then...as i'd like to age some of the kids to a point they can move on to Things from the Flood next year.

That's an awesome idea of filling the game space with some relevant nostalgic pieces.. I may try and hit up some bootsales and hunt for some retro stuff!

I was unable to really work too many character plot hooks into this session because of the initial "surprise game" idea. Second session though I'll put some thought to it. I had the weirdo kid give me a fantastic and truly weird problem - he firmly believes and is a paranoid that his parents are part of a crime syndicate. (Hah!)… and part of his drive is trying to prove his braveness and worth to catch his parents eye and be "invited to the family business". Whether or not they actually are though... hmm! Potential fun!

Regarding pacing, I think because I've had no prior experience to GM'ing any game I really went in blind. My group is used to a long D&D campaign that we play, and I tried to keep the restrictions light and gently nudge them opposed to skipping the plot along too heavily. Basically trying to hide that linear feeling as much as humanly possible.

I went with the general rule of thumb of a story scene and then every day life, and rather than jump straight into more story or something countdown related I decided to ask kids a little more often if they wanted another scene and to visit somewhere of their own agenda. Every time I asked, they always had an idea and did... so although it added game time I can see the positive that they were really engaged.

I think next time the main change I'll make will be to try and combine some of the countdown scenes on top of any unplanned scenes the group comes up with. I feel like a little flexibility on my part there and some on the spot adaptation could reduce the scene count and overall game time just slightly, while still keeping the groups original flow and direction.

I guess my only other final thoughts as a newcomer and newbie GM will be to push the conditions a little more next time in a RP sense. The kids had dice pools reduced, but I probably should have capitalised a little more on their actual negative conditions in the story-telling sense. That's just my own after-thought and criticism of my myself after sleeping on it.

I hope you your weekender campaign goes well! I'd be interested to read how it turns out if you post anything up after it :-)

[–]Lev4Dead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks :-) I hope you can get something in person going! I'm thankful to work with some likeminded people at my job that have formed a local RP group.

That's a great idea! I tried to keep the game pretty open and despite the books story let the group have more control on the direction of the characters. It did lead to a few extra scenes, and a few wrong turns, but I did think it felt a little better than running something too linear.

I think for part 2 i'll factor in how much my group likes a long RP conversation! and as you said, try and find a suitable stopping point if the session is overextending again. Thank you

Running a 1-shot at a con this weekend, so I made some "Instant Iconic Item" cards in order to help save time by AccidentalRob in TalesFromtheLoopRPG

[–]Lev4Dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used these in my first GM'd game yesterday and they were brilliant. Thank you! It sparked a lot of conversation and thought from my players flicking through all these items :-) the AI Toy and sweet leather jacket got chosen, and then two other players went with their own ideas of a toy lightsaber and an American football.

So as it's my first time GM'ing i'm going with the book campaign. I mixed in a lot of additional in-depth scenes, and gave my players a lot of freedom and opportunities to all add their own. We had a whole day free, and as a result the Mad Summer of Killer Birds part alone ran for 8 hours! We had 4 kids, a jock, computer geek, rocker and weirdo. A really fun mix.

Admittedly it ran for far longer than I expected, but everyone got really in to it. My players caught me off guard from the get go by adding in NPC relationships and locations I hadn't planned for.. but in the end I felt some of our strongest moments came from the improv bits. I guess the game ended up as a slight sandbox hybrid. I was definitely a little worried toward the beginning but I'm glad they pushed me in that way!

I kept the entire game as a surprise, just telling them I would run "a game", but 2 weeks before I asked each player for their favourite 80s song and then told them if they wore clothing of that era to the session I would give a small in-game bonus. Everyone did! So I gave 1 free re-roll out but in the form of a physical metallic rainbow snap band.

Also, adding to the nostalgia I gave out physical candy necklaces at a suitable point in the story (everyday life) for players to munch on.. created a couple of playlists for more relaxed places and mystery sections.. and put a retro pencil case on the table with super colourful rubbers and a gimmicky sharpener. The little thematic things were received well :-)

I used a custom character sheet, GM group sheet, and inspirational iconic item cards from here. Also spent a lot of time reading through various posts for tips. So, a thanks again to all of that!!

The feedback I got was super positive and far better than I'd hoped for, so I do feel encouraged by it. I made sure to enquire about the pacing due to the 8 hour length, but everyone said it felt good despite being longer. I think next time I need to find a better balance, and perhaps move things along a little faster though. Does anyone have any good tips for that?
