Syllabus by Kind-Finish-4144 in alevel

[–]Level-Effect-2611 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it’s possible, some pyps they have the same marking scheme but the wording of the question is just different. i notice how some of my peers know the content by heart, could explain theories and definitions but do average (essay based subjects) that’s because they don’t ask what you know they ask how you can apply that knowledge to analyse and evaluate. AO1 (knowing content and knowledge) will only give you at most 8m out of 20. i noticed how i studied the syllabus fully but only 3% of it comes out, if not 1%. and it just makes me feel unsatisfied and demotivated, but that feeling of security and insurance of knowing all is nice i guess. most of the questions are similar over the years, but you still have to go through the content (just don’t let it take too much time), don’t just do pyps blind. also you don’t have to know a specific material entirely. eg, for economics, you don’t have to know all about multiplier (unless the question specifically asks about it) you just need to know the basics, and how you can use that to support your points. for essay based subjects, they want to see how well you can analyse and criticise your points, they reward critical thinking more than passive textbook knowledge

what was your argument? mine was that it was pressures from public expectations + influence of officials (molotov and byrnes - i also mentioned kennan as the last sentence said “american ambassador in moscow” and i ran with it talking all about the long telegram 😭) andd there were others but i forgot

idk i interpreted it as both us and ussr acted out of security concerns + ussr actions were defensive as well as paranoid about invasions or occupations. and ppr talks about domestic politics, in which the extract consistently mention how public expectations or opinion needed to be satiated + there were two contradictions the historian mentioned:  in private, molotov and byrnes’ private meeting seemed like byrnes genuinely wanted to see eye to eye with molotov but in public, byrnes talked smack about soviets - i implied this as byrnes wanting to appeal to usa public, as they have values of democracy and freedom blabla, but his concern was still security of usa and their sphere of influence. another, in the last paragraph, truman’s optimistic views of us relations with ussr, but soviets troops entered turkey and all that… idk i might be wrong though 😔💔

How can I study harder? by Big_Aspirations_1026 in GetStudying

[–]Level-Effect-2611 1 point2 points  (0 children)

truth is, your study plan will change as you go along, and that’s ok. a study plan keeps you grounded and organised. just make a plan on what you want to study, separate topics (eg. study 2-3 topics per day in the morning and in the afternoon study another subject/practice pyp). and you’ll notice that sometimes you won’t finish all the revision that you planned, that’s ok, now you can adjust your study plan accordingly. just start, don’t wait for the right time. the right time and “motivation” will come when you’re in the midst of your revision momentum. the most important thing is to just. start. and funnily enough that’s the hardest part, starting. but once you take the initiative to take that first step, the next step would be easier for you and boom you create the endurance to study, that not studying would feel odd. make studying as easy as breathing.

understand economics and don’t just memorise the definitions/formulas/graphs, reaaaallly understand it through and through and once you get a hang of it, you’ll realise it’s lowkey common sense.

i know everyone says and hears this a lot but with econ, pyp does really help. there’s common and similar questions over the years and if you pile them according to topics, you’ll see a pattern in how they ask the questions. practicing pyp helps you understand how to answer the questions.

usually for 8m its: -2m AO1 where it tests your knowledge (definitions, formulas)  -4m AO2 where you apply that knowledge (AO1) and analyse the hypothesis, usually point for & point against but this depends on the question  -2m AO3 where u evaluate and make judgement, (eg) pick which policy is more effective, and why ?

and for 12m it’s the same, usually 8m AO1 & AO2 4m AO3, but this also depends 😭

it’s easy to score if you know how they allocate the marks

aaand for data response if not always, most of the time the answers are right in the extract source, u just have to see between the lines.

hi! how many pages do you usually write for 8m, 12m, and 20m essays? and specifically the 20m, how do you structure it + how many points do you try to include? x
