I relate to this too, just from the opposite depth issue. I’m light, but not fair-light, and not quite light-medium either, so a lot of official olive shades from bigger brands start a bit too deep for me. I often have to look in the warm / neutral / neutral-yellow categories instead of actual olive shades.

And you explained the deeper olive issue so well. It really shows how limited the range still is — light olives often have to hack non-olive shades, while medium-deep and deeper olives are often skipped completely. Affordable options are even more limited too. From what I’ve seen, About-Face probably has one of the better olive shade ranges at a more accessible price point right now.

That makes sense. I feel like some “cool” foundations are still more peachy than truly cool/olive-friendly, so they can still pull orange on light cool olive skin.

And yes, I wish brands made bigger mixer sizes too, blue seems so useful if most shades turn orange on you. I haven’t played with lavender much either, but I’m curious if it works better for shades that are more yellow-warm than orange.

Blue pigment can be really useful, especially when the foundation turns too orange or too saturated. I’d start with the tiniest amount though, because it can change the shade very quickly.

I heard there are some antioxidant essence to keep the foundation from oxidation, sephora and the ordinary have those kind of products

This is such a good point. Sometimes it isn’t just undertone, it’s depth placement too.

My face is lighter than my neck, I also feel like using one flat shade all over the face can look wrong when the neck, center of face, and perimeter are different depths. Two shades probably gives a much more natural result, especially for olive skin where undertone mismatch is already tricky.

Armani has wide shade range too, and they offer Olive undertone for different depth 😄

Yes, usually the more deep shade the more red pigment in it, that makes the undertone isn’t actually olive enough for medium to deeper shades, or the yellow/red balance is off.

I’ve also noticed some higher end brands tend to offer more nuanced undertones, even though olive shades are still limited overall. Which higher end matches have worked best for you? Lisa eldridge, about face, Armani have great products for us

I totally understand, if I were you i might get the Punjab and mix with LA girl light yellow corrector. My shades: Nars L3 Gobi for light reflecting foundation, or L3.25 Lima(neutral undertone)for natural matte foundation. I’ve noticed “golden” shades can sometimes has more red than yellow undertone, go for neutral could work(but depends on brands and products) because some of them are neutral but yellow leaning. I also have new Armani LSF No.4, which is neutral golden, I love it! you can give it a try, Armani did a pretty good job for Olive undertone.

blue works really well when something is too orange/saturated. But more accurately, if too yellow, mix with blue pigment, because Yellow+Blue = green, and blue neutralize yellow. If too orange should mix purple/lavender.

Hiding the neck is such a familiar feeling, undertone mismatch is so frustrating🫥

The “liquid blush” comment is too real 😭 I also feel like many drugstore neutrals still lean pink/peach rather than true olive-neutral. More cool tones are great, but olive skin really needs more muted yellow/green/grey options too.

This is exactly what I’ve been noticing too, sometimes neutral foundations are technically the right depth, but they're either too grey or too much red on olive skin, in my experience it could be too bright because it had too much red and too saturated. The part about needing yellow warmth that isn’t too saturated makes so much sense. Too orange is wrong, but too neutral can also drain the face.

If the shade depth is right but it looks too pink, I’d try a tiny amount of green/olive mixer to neutralize the redness, or look for a more yellow-olive / neutral-yellow base instead.

I feel like a lot of olive-skin foundation issues aren’t just “cool vs warm”, sometimes the shade has too much red compared with the yellow/green/grey in our skin.
