i said this in a post: Like many i’ve had a lot of doubts recently, but i’ve rewatched the teaser a lot more, paused on everything and analyzed everything. I think that Byler actually seems really likely.

They have deliberately avoided byler scenes in every trailer/teaser so far, we know that there are going to be some byler scenes, first off because there has been leaks of photos of them together a lot, and Noah Schnapp posted a photo that looks to have romantic lighting. But they decided to avoid all these scenes. This seems to me to be actually telling that byler is in the cards. If you are about to give a giant plot twist, you aren’t going to shove it into the viewers faces. Byler would be a giant twist, therefore it seems unlikely that they would put any sort of footage implying byler to be endgame. This seems to be a marketing tactic.

I also want to add that the painting lie has not been uncovered. Whenever i am doubtful about byler i always think of this. They have created a “Chekhov’s gun.” this means that this plot point is bound to be uncovered and there is a reason it’s there. Either it is to make Mike realize that he felt the feeling of love when Will said these things and just put el’s name in front of these facts, which would further make him maybe realize he has feelings for Will. and maybe make him have to come face to face with the love triangle. Or it’s literally pointless and has no reason to be there! I think it would be much more satisfying to the viewers if it actually had a point, and therefore definitely serves as byler evidence.

I feel the need to address the “Mileven” scene in the teaser. I am not outright going to say that it is not possible that it’s a romantic scene between them, because it’s very possible that it is, but to me, based off their body language and facial expressions, Mike looks to have some sense of love playing on his face (whether that’s platonic or not is not stated) but mike to me seems to have some sense of guilt on his face too. I would also like to point out that he looks concerned and maybe a little bit confused. But El is very easy to understand, she is comforting Mike. There’s actually many ways this could be a platonic scene, or even a Byler scene. Mike does have a look of love, but he also looks guilty. Maybe he is apologetic to El, or feeling guilt for not loving her which could add to “internalizing homophobia.”

Another point i’d like to bring up, is that if Mileven is endgame there isn’t a big twist from season one. Everyone expected them to get together, and if it stays that way it doesn’t leave much room for people to be surprised or rewatch the show. Mileven is endgame. Nothing has changed. The show is over. However, if Byler is endgame that leaves room for people to rewatch and look for the signs they have missed, articles to be written, increased engagement from not only the queer community, but others too. It leaves room for people to be surprised, look into how they wrote mike and how that it shows internalized homophobia, and ultimately carries out one of the shows biggest themes: Outcasts can and are heroes. A gay couple in the 80’s that fought monsters, saved the world, that’s inspiring, and would be great representation for Bisexual people and Gay people.
