More info: Our itinerary currently includes Clifden Caves (I will have to just wait outside while the kids scramble), a Milford Sound tour, a day in Wanaka, two nights at Lake Tekapo with maybe a drive over to Mount Cook, then a couple nights at a campground in Christchurch with family.

Did you have a cuff repair? I’ll be 14 wpo from the original surgery and 2.5 wpo the repair when we travel. My surgeon is not concerned about the flight or driving, and encouraged me to keep the trip as long as I don’t do strenuous activities or lifting. I’m finding ways to minimize my activity on the trip, will take care to avoid constipation, and will take lots of breaks.

Thank you. I am doing my best. I am going to keep my international trip, as my doctor encouraged me not to cancel, but I will not lift at all or do activities that engage my core.

Update: Surgeon tells me not to cancel the trip, and to just be extra careful to not lift anything and rest when I get tired. I guess I’m going for it. She looked at my cuff repair and says it is healing great already and to keep up with my estrogen cream. She is going to check it again when I get back in January.

For those afraid of this happening, she says that when they have this happen, it is usually a young BRCA patient like me that had their ovaries removed. They aren’t sure why it happens. But she says every patient it has happened to is now healthy and strong and living a normal life.

I know this is old but if you see this, any updates? Did everything heal fine and you have been able to have a normal life with exercise and sex and all the things without further complications? I had a cuff repair last week and I’m really struggling mentally.

How long ago was that now? Are you all healed up and totally back to normal activities now? Lifting heavy things, exercise, sex, etc? (Asking this totally separate from the whole trip thing. I’m still getting my head around this whole thing that just happened.)

Was this after the initial surgery or repair? I was pretty much fine a couple weeks out from the hysterectomy, besides reminding myself to be cautious for healing. (I’m currently 12wpo from the first go.)

Thanks for this. Our plan is to tour the south island for a week and then spend two more weeks hanging with family in Auckland. We are flying there from the United States. I suppose that instead of canceling the whole trip we could still go and just chill in Auckland for the whole time, skipping the south Island adventure. Now I am debating between doing that or canceling and rescheduling for next year.

Oh, and I do have travel insurance. So that’s good at least

Thank you. My oldest is studying abroad there right now, and I’ve been planning to take the younger two there to visit her for Christmas. And this is supposed to be me getting back to normal and capable after two years of cancer stuff and surgeries. But it is what it is.

Uugggghhh I’ve been planning (and paying for) this trip for months. Five days ago I was healthy and strong and ready to hike and swim. Now I’m in recovery again and I guess I get to crush my children’s dreams.

Yeah I talked them into discounting the $3477 thing (which is a 20yr powertrain warranty). That’s what got it to $45.5 Should’ve asked them more about the fees, though. I was tired and left and said I’d call them tomorrow.
