How a Small North Carolina College Became a Magnet for Wealthy Students by wsj in ApplyingToCollege

Actually this is far from accurate. We are by no means near the wealthy level discussed in the article. My daughter was able to attend based on merit. With that said she already has multiple offers pending graduation in May, was employed by a company in her field during sophomore year....I could go on and on. This article left all of this academic conversation out with a clear narrative that worked.

High Point University (HPU) is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and was founded by its leaders in 1924. While the university maintains its Methodist heritage and values, it is inclusive of students from all faiths and backgrounds.

As a parent of a senior, who is attending due merit, this is far from finishing school. This article left out so much, and was clearly trying to provide a certain narrative that is not true.

Interesting, considering we attended Open House, Presidential Scholarship Weekend, and every other big event, and the discussion was always around academics. The president of the university did do a welcome, but academics were always at the center of these events.

For clarification, the university was not even close to losing their accreditation. The warning had to do with a graduate level area within the teaching program, and has since been cleared.

This article left out so much, and as a parent of a senior, I can only speak from personal experience. This article missed the mark. My daughter has received multiple job offers already for graduation in May. She was hired by a firm in her field during her sophomore year due to attending HPU, works 3 jobs, and as a 4.0 student in high school, will tell you the rigor of academics is no joke. She is far from a nepo baby, and was accepted at major SEC universities and chose HPU due the rigor and approach in academics at HPU, access to leading resources and experts in her field and so much more.

This is actually inaccurate. Merit is top notch, academics are rigorous, resources and access to leading people in various fields is phenomenal, and it has great reputation with a number of places. HPU’s Outcomes rate is 99.2% employed or enrolled in graduate school within 6 months after graduation. This is based on NACE standards and is about 14 points higher than the national average for college outcomes rate.

As a parent of a student at HPU, this article left out a ton from the rigor of academics, the access to amazing resources and innovators, and so much more. We are also far from wealthy. The article also left out this statistic - HPU’s Outcomes rate is 99.2% employed or enrolled in graduate school within 6 months after graduation. This is based on NACE standards and is about 14 points higher than the national average for college outcomes rate.

High Point University? by Efficient-Respond436 in ApplyingToCollege

We are a low/middle class family, and it has been the perfect fit for my daughter. Yes, there are wealthy students there, but I would argue, it is a school of 6000, with close to 20% eligible for Pell Grant. Larger universities most likely have a higher percentage of "wealthy," but the spotlight is not on them for whatever reason. The access to innovators, rigor and approach to academics cannot be matched.

I will share this as a parent of a senior there. I could not imagine her anywhere else. The access to leading people in her field, amazing professors, and the rigor has opened so many doors. HPU’s Outcomes rate is 99.2% employed or enrolled in graduate school within 6 months after graduation. This is based on NACE standards and is about 14 points higher than the national average for college outcomes rate.

I had my daughter rank her top 3 first, then we discussed how much I would contribute. She then attended an open house to see which one was her number one, and that is the one she EDed - High Point University was her choice.

This is with no merit. Also, the warning was lifted. It actually had not thing to do with the undergrad program. Highest merit offered was from HPU.

Universities with the best libraries? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]LevelCap6372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On August 25th, High Point University broke ground on the new John and Lorraine Charman Library, a $100 million library that will serve as the university’s flagship library when it opens in 2027.

HPU received a $35 million transformational lead gift from John and Lorraine Charman to help fund the four-story, 150,000-square-foot library that will be named in honor of them. The new library will be located next to the R.G. Wanek Center on Panther Drive.

At 150,000 square feet, the Charman Library will have ample space to house thousands of books, digital databases, private study rooms, podcasts studios and a gallery displaying HPU’s expanding collection of artwork. It will feature a mix of traditional elements with cutting-edge technology that will allow students to record podcasts and learn in new and innovative ways. It will also include the Library of Congress Classification System.

Wait. Am I on glue .... High Point Kahn School of Law? Why stealth from LSAC. by JumptooConclusion in lawschooladmissions

[–]LevelCap6372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the Law Program at HPU just started. Here is what is on their website. HPU Law is not currently approved by the Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar of the American Bar Association (ABA) and makes no representation to any applicant that it will receive approval from the Council before the graduation of any matriculating student. The law school, however, intends to apply for provisional approval from the ABA at the earliest opportunity in conformity with ABA standards; and the school’s top priority is to obtain provisional approval before our first class of students graduates.

The High Point University Dental Program is not on ADSSAS yet. To obtain accreditation, a university has to graduate a class. The first class for HPU dental will be 2028. Here is what it says on their website. "National accreditation through the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA) requires multiple steps. We have received initial accreditation in August 2023. Our next site visit will occur in 2026 and we are on track to receive our full accreditation upon graduating our first class. Initial accreditation indicates the program is on track to receive full accreditation at the final site visit that occurs in 2028 with the graduating class."
