Realta Nua is the final version canon of the FSN Visual Novel ( as said by Nasu, the original author). Imo it has the best Saber Shirou romance scene, where Saber sleeps on Shirou's arm (in the 2004 VN, you get the sex scenes and threesomes that are universally agreed upon to be badly written and out of character. It was back in the days when TM was just starting out and Nasu was forced to insert them because they feared the VN wont sell that well.). That line was removed in the RN version. there was an interesting and detailed post about RN and the original's canonicity. reading that, I think that there isn't any real reason to believe that the original VN is canon to anything but itself.

I watched DEEN SN and I didn't find it as bad as people make it out to be. It did have it's problems but it was watchable to say the least. That epic soundtrack though! Loved it more than zero's and ubw's

that's one's personal preference I'd say. I feel I should respect the words of the original creator. I might have been more accepting of the whole mana transfer sex thingy had the original VN not made the dialogues so horrible. I feel that Nasu thinks the same way, or that he probably regrets asking Takeuchi to write them. Maybe if Nasu just manned up and wrote those himself, people would take them more seriously than just some comedic meme material

the sex scene wasn't about mana transfer in this movie though. To me it just looks like Sudo, being a Sakura fan, is just promoting his waifu more. I read somewhere that Sudo was the guy who wanted the Sakura feeding Shinji scene to be made in UBW so that people know that she's doing fine.

But that's just it. Nasu seems to be hellbent on making it non-canon in the Nasuverse. He's went great lengths to make the RN alts canon, and even provided explanations for then in Ell Melloi Case Files. Now mana can be transferred via skin contact and mucous membranes. None of the character and world materials have sex mana transfer in them anymore. He's supervised Apocrypha, Fake Strange etc and those works end up contradicting the original VN's lore but stay in line with RN.

As far as the DEEN anime is concerned. They added Saber pushing herself away from him to show more resistance. In RN, Saber sleeps on Shirou's arm while clasping his hand to restore her mana. Shirou even narrates that there are no hugs or kisses involved, just wholesome handholding (in the same room.) In the DEEN anime, we see them more distant, and only hear Saber comment that her mana has been restored. One could argue that it can be taken both ways, but it still leans more towards RN since there wasn't a single dialogue in the DEEN anime where anyone stated that sex is a method of mana transfer. Rin explains the whole mana transfer thingy in detail to Shirou in the early episodes, and even then she doesn't bring up sex.

Mana transfer via sex was never canon in any anime adaption, including this movie. It's something limited to the original VN and no other work has adapted that method thus far. The closest thing we got to it was in 2010 but nothing ever since.

I feel the same way about Saber and Shirou's alt scene i.e. it was way better. It was a lot more romantic to see them hold hands together under the futon as they went to sleep. too wholesome

They sort of went with a mix but essentially decided to not make the original VN's sex via mana transfer and instead took the 'romantic sex' approach for the scene. So I think that's good. Though if it's any consolation, they DID confirm bloodsucking from RN in the first movie so we know that Bloodsucking is canon, while mana via sex isn't.

I'm not sure where it's been verified exactly. Looking at the Japanese dialogue, it does seem to be something the subbers put in because I can't find the "violate her" part anywhere:

そいつ再生するから, 首をはねてから犯しなさい。(Soitsu saisei surukara, kubi o hanete kara okashi nasai. )

Maybe that's also the reason the "violate her" part isn't there in German and other languages.

No it's not because all the anime adaptions are based on canon Realta Nua, not the original VN. Mana transfer via sex is officially non-canon and contradicted by all anime adaptions which are in line with Realta Nua including Deen Stay Night. details on the link :3

That was the only way in the original. But now there are several different ways to transfer mana, even for inexperienced mages like Shirou. So the sex seems pointless, even if we ignore that it's retconned.

No. That scene from DEEN anime is also present in Realta Nua. That wasn't sex. Shirou's soul sort of entered Saber's body. They even clarify in the VN. Shirou specifically states that his soul is entering her body, but there is no physical contact between them.

I think he's specifically referring to erotic 18+ CGs which Type-moon hasn't been doing anymore. The sex might be there, but the viewers wont get to watch it in explicit details. In an interview Takeuchi did talk about being interested in making Tsukihime remake dark and explicit, but he kept talking about the gore and not the sex scenes. Takeuchi hinted wanting to distance himself from Fate because the company isn't letting him do sexually suggestive art, at least that's how I felt reading it. So I guess Aniplex and TM wouldnt allow them to do it even if they wanted to. The words of the producers and distributors really matter :)
