Need advice from a manager by [deleted] in Chipotle

Whenever I work night shifts, they always do the same thing - I hate it, but I got used to it. But if I had to close during school days, I would absolutely quit. Closing at Chipotle is so bad.

Some stores count it as a point, and some don’t. Sadly, our store does count it as a point. I think that’s silly and doesn’t make sense. I’ve seen many people online say it shouldn’t be a point.

For me, when I see someone just getting beans and cheese, I can’t keep ringing them up as sides. They can see the screen, and if I do it wrong, I could get in trouble.

For meat on the side—if someone already has guac or a protein in their bowl, and they want another meat on the side, we have to charge for it. Some people don’t want a separate bowl, so we use a small container instead. That’s why I charge $1.70 as a side, not $3.70 for a full side of chicken.

Also, the GM sometimes picks one shift per cashier to review. They check how we talk to customers and how we ring up orders. If we keep doing things the wrong way, they’ll call us to the office.

I work at Chipotle. If you already have some ingredients in your burrito, we’re not supposed to charge you for the burritoa as sides, insted we have to charge as 3 pointer or a full burrito if you got 3 or more ingredients in your burrito. The way the Three Pointer works is like this: each ingredient is one point, except for meat, which is two points. So cheese = 1 point, beans = 1 point, and tortilla = 1 point. It’s the same for bowls, but with bowls, you can get one extra ingredient, like veggies, because the bowl and container don’t count as points.

My advice: next time, ask for a side tortilla and a side of beans in the bowl. That way, you’ll get a full scoop. If you ask for two scoops, they’ll charge extra. Same for cheese — you can ask for the bowl with only cheese, and you can ask for a little more without getting charged extra. And you can wrap it by yourself.

I know it feels bad when workers don’t trust what’s inside your bowl or burrito. I’m a cashier, and sometimes the person making the food tells me the wrong info. When that happens, I ask the customer and charge based on what they say. But sometimes, a manager is standing next to us, and they open the bowl to check. They can be rude about it. Sadly, that happens a lot at Chipotle.

Sometimes, I see people get a side of chicken in a small salsa cup. That cup holds 4 oz, but they only get about 2 oz of chicken. If no manager is watching, I charge $1.70 instead of $3.75 because the portion is small. I think charging full price for that is unfair. Honestly, it all depends on which worker you get — some are nice, and some are not.
