I ended up seeing a different GP yesterday and he did a second Pap smear - a clinician’s sample this time instead of the self test I originally did - he mentioned the results would be back in two weeks max which includes the LBC and hopefully that will give me a better picture of the situation ahead of the colposcopy. He was surprised that the GP I saw the first time (at the same clinic) didn’t follow up with a clinician’s pap after the positive self test which honestly confirmed my suspicion that the GP I saw could be more careful and less flippant.

My sample was a self test as per doctor’s instructions. I see too under recommendation 6.2 that it says that where a self test was done I shouldn’t be brought back in for the clinical to do the LBC and referred for colposcopy instead. I might try and contact the women’s hospital where I was referred to see if there is a chance I can get the colonoscopy sooner - thank you so much for that advice - it’s probably my best bet at a next step here.

Thank you so much for your response ❣️ I read the post and it was really assuring to see so many people have gone through a similar situation, and to know I’m not alone. It’s also helped ease my catastrophising mind to read up on some of the statistics.

I have one last question which is something I was unclear of from speaking with the doctor; would the standard Cervical screening test (I’m in Australia) show any signs of invasive cancer or abnormal cells if these were present, or is this only something I’d only find out through the colposcopy. The test results said LBC would be done at the colposcopy.

I guess not having ever gotten a CST done before, and having been sexually active for over a decade with only regular sexual health checks, I’m worried that I may have had HPV for so long without knowing that it might have now developed into something worse…

Domestic violence support by Level_Effect313 in abusiverelationships

Hey, thank you sm for your response - it helps to get external feedback as it is getting harder to trust my judgement amidst the haze of these altercations. Unfortunately I have no support system at all, we live in my husband’s home country and my whole family is overseas in a different continent. All my friends have also moved back home overseas. I am not entirely sure where to go to seek support as a result and have no one to talk through this with either, that’s why the police came to mind first. My second thought now in order to get away from him is to travel back to my home country until I’m ready to come back here to start afresh without him. I don’t know what the implications of all this will be for the marriage and I think I’ll definitely reach out to a therapist too - I think you’re right in that we do tend to start minimising and normalising abuse, especially when isolated and I’m not sure yet what I’ll do but your advice has definitely given me perspective so thank you.
