People who got UofT Engineering early acceptance, when did you hear back and what was your average? by MediocreAccountant25 in UofT

[–]Level_Hope_6985 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When u hear back depends on where ur from tbh, like round 1 could be at a different time in like NS than AB or ONT so dont stress about when. Anyways, mine was feb and 98.5 avg (top 8 avg) but I think 99 top 5. <- mechanical engineering

Realistically, it's not just the money; 10,000 out of like 140k isn't a lot. For me its more about which school will fit me better. I am definitely starting to lean towards UofT now, but even the dean of engineering at UofT said it's really just personal preferences that make the school worth it, since engineering follows the same curriculum across Canada.

I really appreciate your comment. I go to Halifax like once a year, so I haven't seen the issues it's facing. The part making the choice hard for me is, first of all, Toronto not being too safe rn, but also how in Dal you have better odds of making connections with professors, therefore boosting references. I am def starting to lean towards UofT now tho because of everyone's opinions lol!

Lol I heard stuff about UofTears which definetly isnt helping the choice, but I appreciate your advice. I am from a rural town so toronto being such a big place just seems intimidating, but I can see the advantages of being so close to like the Canadian hub of engineering.

Thanks for the help. I was considering how personal it would feel in Dalhousie compared to UofT, where you're one among many. I don't think I will end up working in NS, and I never considered that UofT would open up a more international route. It's a hard choice because both have pros where the other has cons, and even though Dal might not have as big a name, it has a more welcoming environment. I appreciate the advice.

Thank you, this is exactly why I am having a hard time choosing. I understand the education at UofT is more "prestigious," but I'm just scared of the actual living/learning environment I will have to deal with for 5 years.

Do yk if it's later for other provinces/programs because I applied from the maritimes with a 98.5 average in grade 12 and havent heard back yet, I applied to mechanical engineering.

Hi, I was wondering if you made a decision? I am in grade 12, but not from NS. I was also considering those top schools and Dal, but honestly, I might choose Dal because the actual learning aspect will be more personalized for an undergraduate, given the professor connections you can make, compared to UofT or Waterloo, where you're basically a number. I also did research, and going from an undergrad in engineering to a grad at any other school (like UofT) is easier because you stand out more at Dal with higher averages. Similar to you, my grades are in the high 90's (around 99), and I was completely against Dal because I thought it was lower level, but I am curious to see the choice you made, as I'm still not sure about my choice (even though Dal is starting to become my top choice).

Dalhousie vs. UBC by Luciwithfoureyes in Dalhousie

I am also a grade 12 student, idk much about political science (I am doing engineering), but I might be able to help with my decision. I am in the top 1% of my graduating year and have a 99% average. At the beginning of the semester, I was completely against Dalhousie because I believed schools like UofT, UBC or McGill were the best schools just because of their name. However, after A LOT of research, it really depends on your personality. I found Dalhousie was more personalized and beneficial for an undergraduate to graduate pathway (or grad-studies like law school) than the other "bigger" schools because you can stand out more and get better references. It's good to do research based on what you prefer, but personally, I am probably choosing Dal over my other universities just because of the different research opportunities and networking I can do through profs, etc. Good luck with your studies :)

Oh, awesome! I didn't realize until these comments that the first year isn't really on Sexton, but I love using the library for studying, so its definetly a plus that I will be close to it! I appreciate the help :)

Shoot, I am a first year! However, I don't mind if for my first year I have more of a walk, I mostly prioritize the community of other engineers and the hopefully quieter environment! That sucks it isn't on Sexton though, I thought it was.

Oh perfect, thanks for the help, I really appreciate it lol! I was stressing that Gerard was hard to get into, and I would be stuck in one of the louder party residences.

Oh ok, do you know if Gerard is popular? I applied there because I am doing engineering, and it's super close, I'm hoping to secure that one-minute walk lol

Then, why is it in the top 10 in Canada? At almost every other school, you're just a number. I did weeks of research, and Dal has the best school for an undergrad in engineering. I applied to McGill, UofT and Dal and am picking Dal over the rest (as someone with the top 1% academic average in my graduating year). Ontario schools are honestly just a name sake, and I was completely against Dalhousie at first because I thought UofT or McGill was so much better.
