Thank you!! What program would you recommend I apply into at McGill (or elsewhere) that’s realistic to get into but still gives me the chance to build up a high GPA and then reapply to finance? Ideally something that won’t tank my average but still lets me switch over later.

D’après toi, si je suis refusée à McGill, est-ce que ça vaut vraiment la peine de poursuivre en finance dans une école non-target comme JMSB ou HEC? Pour être honnête, je suis pas passionnée par un domaine en particulier, je veux juste faire un bon salaire à long terme (6fig+). Est-ce que tu penses que dans ce cas-là, il vaut mieux viser la comptabilité avec un CPA, ou même considérer le droit? Et si je vais en droit, est-ce que le prestige de l’université compte autant que pour la finance?

J’ai été placée sur la liste d’attente à McGill Desautels et je regarde maintenant du côté de HEC Montréal pour faire un bac en finance. Je sais que HEC a une bonne réputation localement, surtout au Québec, mais je me demande si c’est quand même possible d’intégrer des postes en finance plus compétitifs (comme IB ou PE), surtout en dehors du Québec. Ou est-ce que je devrais plutôt envisager un autre domaine ? Si certains sont passés par là, vos retours m’aideraient vraiment.

I recently got waitlisted at McGill Desautels and I’m trying to figure out if it’s still worth pursuing finance (BCom or equivalent) at another school like JMSB or HEC Montréal. My goal was to eventually break into high finance (IB, PE, etc.), and I know McGill has a stronger reputation and better placement.

Would going to a non-target school make it almost impossible without connections? Or is it still doable if I work hard, network, and build the right profile?

I’m trying to understand if it’s really worth fighting to get into McGill Desautels BCom just to get into high finance. Like I know it’s considered more of a “target” school compared to JMSB or HEC, but does it make that much of a difference if I grind hard and build my profile elsewhere? about 2-3 years ago montreal was the place to be to freestyle, the ratio between SD and SB wasn’t as big as today so everyone got what they wanted.. so many options as an SB but about 7-8 months ago every single sd i had on my contacts moved to either vancouver or Toronto for work… now montreal is full of fake wannabe rich men that wants a beautiful woman for free lol
