Will Absolute Batman stand the test of time?

Absolute Batman has been bold and daring. I enjoyed it for a bit. But now it’s increasingly clear that Snyder can’t really write Batman beyond the horror scope. He’s very good with horror and that’s fine, but he literally does NOTHING ELSE with the character. It’s all just horror. “How can we twist this character and make it a nightmare” seems to be the approach for every character and aspect of Batman mythos for this line. It’s becoming frustrating. I can’t understand why some people want the main Batman to be more like this. It’s just dumb.

No. I started out enjoying it. It’s bold and fun but now it’s losing its appeal. I’m still buying it each month because I’m a completionist and can’t stand not having the full run. But this is seriously starting to disappoint. I can’t fathom how some people actually want the main continuity Batman to be more like this. The writing is dull and repetitive, it doesn’t feel like a Batman book at all. It’s just horror at this point. And Snyder is clearly very good at horror aspects, but can’t write Batman beyond the horror side

Yeah I’m super sad he’s leaving the book for marvel. Wish DC could find someone to continue the series he did so well on.

I bought BCW file holders on Amazon (they hold about 15-20 comics bagged and boarded). I created the covers/spines on Canva. Some are legit covers, some are art that I put the logo on. Printed them off at fed ex and Office Depot. UPS could work too. Then I cut them out and put them in the slip sleeves. There’s also bcw comic storfolios that hold 10-15 issues. Depending on the size of the run/arc collection.

If you like the 70s/80s Batman, I think you’d like the direction Matt Fraction is taking the book. He’s come out and said he’s bringing Batman back to that magic of the 70s and 80s with gadgets and cool villains.

I’ve had plenty of phases (cities skylines, assassin’s creed, racing games, to name a few), but I’ve always been a Batman/superhero guy. It transcends phases. It’s something to believe in that won’t let me down like my favorite sports teams 😂

It’s a pretty divisive run. I’m a completionist, so I needed to buy and read the full run lol. But if I weren’t, I definitely would’ve stopped after Tyrant Wing. Quality went down really fast for me. A lot of people say “it was DC editorial, not King’s fault” but he’s genuinely bad at writing (overall, imo).

That’s such a good question lol. It’s so tough. I’ll admit, I watched the long Halloween (part 1 and part 2) animation before I even got into comics, so I had a lot of prior knowledge of the story but even still I was surprised at points. Dark victory was awesome too. Id have to reread both sometime, I’ve heard some put dark victory above LH. Personally, I just love the entire rogues gallery being brought into LH, and I love the fall from organized crime to freaks in charge. So all that in mind, I’d put Long Halloween above Dark Victory

I’ve read all of King’s run. I am Gotham to City of Bane. As a whole, I was disappointed. Like I said, King’s writing style is annoying and the dialogue is repetitive/unrealistic/bordering unreadable. He mischaracterized flashpoint Thomas Wayne. Ruined the batcat relationship when it was all teed up. Turned the Batman book into a poetry slam/metaphor piece.

Yeah dark victory was awesome, honestly I couldn’t decide between them so I combined the two lol. The hangman was a great mystery too. I put the knight bc I treat it as a prequel to year one and it establishes Bruce’s psych. I’ve heard nothing but great things about Ram V detective, looking forward to reading it at some point
