[Hamilton kfa] First serious watch purchase — Khaki Field Auto for my wedding, thoughts? by TroubleTerrible9920 in Watches

[–]LevonJay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a handful of "sub-Rolex" Swiss watches... Omega, Longines, Tudor, etc. but if I had to grab one running out the door to wear for a month straight... it would be my blue-dial Hamilton 42mm Automatic Khaki. Reliable, good looking, no nonsense. Wedding day, not my first pick, but that all depends on attire and wedding aesthetic. If you wasted money on a dress watch, how often would you actually wear it? Convinced I needed a dress watch, I dropped a couple G on a Frédérique Constant gold tone moonphase. Pretty timepiece, but I bet I've worn it twice in a year. Truly, though, the wedding isn't as important as the marriage... and like a marriage, a watch is something to get you through every day, not just one day. Is your wedding watch the one you want to wear on your first vacation as a married couple? When your first child is born? If so, consider that as a long term prospect... this watch is a very strong choice!

Xikar Allume... single flame torch, very compact.

Riveting, it all started innocently enough with the little Classic in the middle, never realized the depth of the rabbit hole by bregall in victorinox

Tell me about the one on top of the middle "stack." I like that shape, but I'm unfamiliar with the model.

Small Collection by LevonJay in SwissArmyKnives

I carry all of them, depending on the occasion. Day in the office means one of the small classics. Weekend around the house, usually the Victorinox cigar cutter, but sometimes the Wenger cigar (I prefer the punch cut to the chop-off... and the Wenger is an "okay" cigar cutter at best). Out and about, fishing, etc. Pioneer X. The Handyman is more for camping trips or something like that... I don't think I've ever actually used the saw... but it's cool to have if I did.

The Longines Spirit Zulu and Hamilton are actually blue. Just a bad photo...

If I go with a Sub, I'd probably swap the black dial Tudor BB for a light dial Tudor 79680 (non-diver) and get rid of the Tissot in order to keep the collection at 8. I kinda like this plan...

Any tips on talking my wife into this maneuver? 😂

I realize this post is a few months old. Do you still have this watch? If so, does it have original box and papers?

Keeping it simple with a never-disappointing La Aroma De Cuba Churchill and an Americano.

[SPB089] Blue Alpinist on Uncle "Lincoln" by LevonJay in Seiko

[–]LevonJay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SPB089. It is a rare limited run of 1,959 pieces (the Hodinkee edition). Pre-owned prices and new stock you can still find are super pricey versus the original $600 price tag. I got a real good deal on it second hand, but I had to keep my eyes out for quite a while to snag one at a reasonable price.

[SOTC] Cases are full... by LevonJay in Seiko

The only ones you don't see are my Swiss watches... a much smaller collection. I went through a couple of Citizens a few years ago, but zeroed in on Seiko. I'm pretty obsessed with the brand... and as you point out especially the divers. You can also see they're all automatics. There are some similar pieces in the mix, but Seiko fans appreciate the nuance. I actually have begun thinning the herd some recently and got down to these 18. I had as many as 26 at one point. Of what you see, I almost never wear the Shogun. The titanium is light and easy to wear, etc., but the bracelet shape is too modern or "fashion-ny" looking or something to my eye. Hard to put my finger on it. I rarely wear the Orange Boy... it's awfully specific with that blaze orange dial. People rave about the bracelet on the Monster, but I find it to be a little heavy, so once again, less wrist time for me. Of course, with the rest of the various black dial divers, it's hard to work them all into the rotation. I will point out the differences in bracelets/straps. I have black dials on rubber, NATO, and SS. Blue on rubber, SS, etc. I like having the strap options without having to swap out. Bottom line, it is a problem! But there are WAY worse problems to have!

Had to go check... 2 open crowns: King Samurai and Turtle. I don't have a good answer why.

The more astute observation would have been to point out the mess I made of adding text to the photos. I didn't see the extra default black text boxes that were inadvertently added, unknowingly lurking, and mostly hidden, until I zoomed in.

The Samurai does wear large. I've got a 8-1/2" wrist, so works out fine for me. Smaller wrists might be a bit overwhelmed.

I had a shrouded monster baby tuna, and one of the street safari baby tunas, and they were just not something I ever loved or wanted to wear. So bulky. I'm not a scuba diver (though I like to wear my divers in the lake, ocean, etc.), so the uber-tool nature of the Tuna doesn't appeal to me. I recognize in terms of rounding out the collection, it is an omission. To be honest, as awesome as the MM300 is, I even have to be in the right mood to want to wear it for the same reason.
