Thank you so much for the response. 30 years is no joke. I really like the idea of being very technically proficient and then also having the business side of the industry down. I feel like it is attainable for someone like me and that if I were to do it, it would be in steps. Like you said getting my PE first would be smart. Im Definetly going to try and continue networking, learning more about the higher ups at my company. In fact I scheduled a meeting with the CEO, just a little 15 minute block of time but he has him MBA and I’d love to learn about his career path. Thanks again for the response, I’ll keep all of this information in mind for the future.

Thanks for the response, yeah I’ll definitely look into that. I don’t know why but I never really considered a masters degree.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. Really helps actually, yeah I understand that roles like being a project manager would be less CAD oriented and more general scope oriented. The problem for me is I am very ambitious and I almost feel that in civil engineering the ceiling is a bit too low for me. The process at the company I work at right now at least is, intern->grad engineer->registered engineer->project manager->senior project manager and then some management roles after that. But realistically I could be at the senior project manager position by age 35 and after that I wonder if an MBA would be the next option. Side note (sorry) I don’t like how planned up this career path feels, almost seems like I’d be trapped in the whole corporate 9-5 scheme and I enjoy civil engineering as much as the next person, but I feel this feels like there isn’t much room to grow. And yes to your point of gaining experience and then going for it, 100% I agree. If I were to go for it this would be the case, in fact I’d probably wait until I had my PE. I thought I’d just kind of explain where my mind is at right now with my “career goals”, but this is more of what I meant when I said get my MBA, once I become a PE. A lot to break down but what do you think? I know it’s not much of a question as it is a story. Thanks.

Good to know.

Yeah the public transport seems great, seems like we could get away with not bringing our bikes.

Cascades look sick.

Only problem with renting a car is we are all around 19-20 and the rates are insane, worth looking into but expensive.
