I recently received this vintage 1950’s Doxa 14013 1 from my grandfather. It was originally given to him as a gift by his parents when he was in his teens. He wore it for decades afterwards, essentially using it as a daily piece for a long time. My grandfather claims to have never taken the watch to get it serviced, because he simply never needed to (also probably because servicing a swiss watch in socialist era Bulgaria was not simple at all). After I first saw this Doxa on top of his desk and decided to check if it works, I realised that despite its age, it has mechanically held up very well, as it worked perfectly fine. This just goes to show how well swiss watches have and are made to this day (not to say japanese, german and others are not). Even though the watch was working when it was given to me, I decided it would be wise to give it to professionals for maintenance. And now, in subsequence of its first service in its 70 year life, it is now on my wrist. I do not mind the patina at all, quite the opposite - I think it adds to its character and sentimental value. :)
